annual banquet will jeld
at Chowan Golf & Country
Club, on October 27-at 6:30
P.M. This fund - raising

on the calendar by anyone
who is interested m., the
future of North AmeriAa’s
waterfowl.
“The Ducks Unlimited
success story is really
starting to spread around.
Banquets much like our
chapter event held
throughout the country last
year contributed towards
Ducks Unlimited’s national
fund - raising effort which
raised S3O million, during
1981 along. But whaf*s even
more important to realize, is
that this national fund -
raising total must increase
this year if the North
American waterfowl habitat
race is to be won.”
DU’s sportsmen - con
servationists founders
discovered through surveys
conducted forty - five years
ago that seventy per cent of
North America’s waterfowl
production occurs in
Canada. They figured out
back in 1937 what holds true
today. Since Federal duck
stamp dollars cannot be
spent beyond U.S. borders,
sportsmen funds earmarked
for waterfowl conservation
are not getting to the places
where the great percentage
of production takes place.
But through Ducks
Unlimited’s efforts, over
$164 million has been raised
in the U.S. since 1937. And 80
cents out of every oge of
those dollars has been
to DU (Canada) to reserve
some 3 million acres, of
prime habitat ./en
compassing over. 1,900
wetland projects. ,
The only problem in all
this is that biolqgists
estimate millions of ad
ditional acres of habitat
must be reserved in order to
stabilize North America’s
waterfowl population. When
you consider that habitat
today is diminishing due to

ment and 'that
DU is the only nonprofit
conservation organization
involved in the Canadian
waterfowl habitat race, you
can begin to see' tht
significance attached to tM
organization’s fund - raising
events.

Is Underway
A unique opportunity is
available to eligible persons
nationwide to participate in
a program supported by the
National Institutes of
Health.
The Hyperlipidemia -
Atherosclerosis Study is
designed to explore the
possibility of reverting the
disease (atherosclerosis)
which causes life
threatening heart attacks.
You or someone you know
may be eligible. Par
ticipants must:
be age 29 through 64
have had only one heart
attack in their lifetime
(suffered within the past
four and a half yedrs)
be free of stroke
be free of diabetes
not have had heart
surgery 9 l
Transportation and
lodging for participants and
one interested Amity
member are free of cost.
The East Coast- Center
(Maine to South Carolina) is
