The “Norfolk” is one of the few remaining authentic skipjacks from the Chesapeake Bay, built in 1903, and is operated by Nautical Advantures Inc, as a sea explorer sail training vessel. The “Meka II” is owned and operated by Sinbad, the only licensed privateer operating in the coastal waters of the U.S. Both vessels will be available for limited boarding and inspection except when participating in a battle as scheduled. «»The award-winning second North Carolina Regiment of Foote is hosting a 100 person military encampment of men, women and children in authentic 18th century dress, living as they might have in Revoluntionary War times. Other participants include the Ist Virginia Regiment, 6th North Carolina Regiment, Guilford Militia, 84th Highland Grenadier Company, N.C. Highland Regiment, 23rd Welsh Fusiliers, 3rd company Fourth Kings’ Own, Frasiers 71st Highlanders, and Kentucky Militia (frontiersmen). A number of local ladies and gentlemen have already done that for you. All you have to do is be on the Courthouse Green at 12:15 P.M., Saturday, October 23 and bid on the one that temps your taste buds. Some of the best cooks in town (Joy Oborn, Emily Amburn, Kathryn Goodwin, Jan Armstrong, Ann Giles, Hugh Dial, Corrine Thorud, Mike Williams, Frances, Evans and Josephine Suter) are preparing some of their favorite deserts for the Ye Old Pastry Auction. A teapot shaped pound cake decorated as a Wedgewood Teapot is being prepared by Anne Graham Rowe and promises to bring a healthy donation to the Edenton Historical Commission. Carroll Mims, auctioneer, promises to be entertaining as he auctions off the fruits of their culinary talents. So bring your sweet tooth and support Historic Edenton. Before going to the Pastry Auction stop by the Stocks located on the Courthouse Green to make, sure the person in them receives their fair punishment. Crimes will be made public. The following people (and a few more) have been con victed of crimes in our fair city and they will be on hand for their punishment Saturday, October 23 be tween the hours of 10:30 - 4:30; Mike McArthur, Lee Devine, Troy Toppin, J.D. Peele, Giff Copeland, Terry Williams and Charlie Creighton. The cost will be sl v oo per minute to keep them in the Stocks. The proceeds from this activity will be used to defray the expenses of bringing the pirate ship “Meka II” to Edenton. CETA Program The Coastal Develop mental Center is now ac cepting applications for skilled training in carpentry and welding. They are working on publicity in special services and as hosts and hostesses . for the 208th anniversary of the Edenton Tea Party. Last week posters were displayed by Ben Rinehart, Linda Twine and Bill Norvell. Flyers were at the Aces game by Renna Liverman. Renna, along with Sherri Belfield, Di&nne Nixon, Art White and Ron Hendricks, worked on painting banners advertising the celebration. There are lots of special jobs to be done in preparing for our visitors. Tea cookies must be made and baked, donated items must be priced, and artists will receive assistance.
