Letter To The Friends Os The Blind
Dear Friends of the Blind:
The Edenton Lions Club is
conducting its annual White
Cane Drive in cooperation
with the North Carolina
State Association for the
Blind. The State Association
for the Blind is a Lions
project. It was organized by
Lions in 1934 as a non -
profit, state - wide
organization and is sup
proted by Lions through this
one annual fund raising
project, The White Cane
Drive.
The association renders
service to any blind and
visually impaired person if
there is a need and there are
no other resources
available. Funds raised will
be used to prevent un
necessary blindness in
North Carolina and for
restoring the sight of those
already blind. Besides
helping those with the loss
of or impaired eyesight, the
Association contributes to
the benefit of everyone
through its cooperation wit
through its cooperation with
the dread eye disease -
Glaucoma.
It is a known fact that
slightly more than fifty per
cent of all blindness can be

Letter To The Editor
Dear Editor:
I attended the John A.
Holmes High School
Homecoming game while I
was home the weekend of
October 29th. I appreciated
the warm welcome Mr.
Elmore gave all of the
Alumni. Being at the game
brought back memories of
football games when I was
attending Holmes High
School. _
There was one disap
pointing moment though,
the school song was not
sung. Singing the school
song is as much a part of
Homecoming as the parade,
Homecoming Court and
Homecoming Dance. It was
always a very moving
moment.
It was brought to my
attention, by one faculty
member, that the school
song is no longer ap
propriate. This can only be
because of the city and
county schools merging.
This may be true but why
not let the student body
decide, after all it is their
school.
The issue should not be
avoided because some
faculty members are
worried that it would cause
problems. If the present
student body decides that
the, school song is inap
propriate then let them find
a new one.
I for one like the present
school song, but the decision
is not mine to make.
Whatever is decided, I
would like to see some type
of school song sung at
Homecoming next year.
Sincerely,
Debbie Burroughs
