Page 10-B The Bandon Chapel Notebook Baptismal Font Presented To Church By Maggie B. Hi Neighbors! In these days of turmoil, strife, high costs, high unemployment, etc., when it seems so hard just to “keep our heads above water”, many people are searching for something to make life worth living. Grace Easley gives us that “something” in her poem “Little Sparrow”. Share it with me: “When I have a lot of worries, and my soul is weighted down, I can almost hear Him saying, ‘Only crosses make a crown’ And when my eyes are burning from the tears that I have shed, Comes the gentle voice ‘Remember what I suffered in thy stead’? When I look around for comfort, and there is no listening ear, Comes a whisper close beside me, ‘Hush my child, for I am here’! And somehow the heavy burden that I almost couldn’t bear, Slips from off my aching shoulders and becomes as light as air. And my heart is filled with gladness, and with peace when it recalls, He knows all things, down to the time the smallest sparrow falls. And a new hope stirs within me, like the beat of feathered wing, And in His outstretched arms I And a love to which I ding And I am no longer troubled at the turning of the ways, For long ago He told me ‘I am with you all the days’. And I find a blessed haven, beyond the reach of man, Just like the tiny sparrow that He shelters in His hand.” This Lord’s Day dawned crisp and clear. The sun danced across the waters of the mighty Chowan while highlighting trees dressed in their brilliant colors -a beautiful Fall day! The air was clean and fresh - the bounty of God’s handiwork surrounded us. Just right to enter the church of our choice for a spiritual refueling. The fine folk gathered for Sunday School at Bandon Chapel were cheerfully greeted by Supt. Stan Turbyfill who made the usual announcements, then gave us something to think about. He requested that we ask God to give us a task to do and that we dare to dream BIG dreams for we have a Great God. “God Leads His People into the Promised Land”, Jos. 3:14 - 4:7, was the topic for our adults, skillfully taught by Wm. F. Smith. God’s Presence continues with His people as they enter new experiences. Aim was that students share with one another how God has helped them to enter a new phase of life. Smith, Sr. and Mrs. John Merritt Polston and to the honor and glory of God. Pastor Bob’s message, “Baptism”, based on Acts 2:27 - 40, was very enlightening. He explained the different methods of Baptism, concluding that no matter which method was used, the service itself was an outward expression of an inner experience -- ac cepting Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord and the desire that Jesus be a part of every experience, every decision; and the knowledge that as we walk, He walks with us and strengthens us to live a Christian life. The Baptismal Font was initiated by Pasta- Bob as he baptised Mrs. Irene Leland in the name at the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. As he finished this beautiful ceremony, the Choir softly sang “Spirit of ' the living God Fall Afresh on Me.” The Baptismal Font was hand crafted by .Chuck Noble and is truly a work of art.
