Happenings ki The
Edenton-Chowan
School System
. There ere eome very
—ritlii( hiypnhy in the
Edenton - Chowan School
fystsm this year. There are
two achievement* you
should know about: (1) Tort
■cores have been improving
far the past seven years and
last year our students
■cored at or above die
national average in every
grade level. (S) Drop out
rates are one of the lowest in
the state with only four of
the 143 school systems
having a lower rate and
those beat us by only one
half of a percentage point.
This year we are em
phasizing courtesy and
respect. We will be stressing
the theme “Courtesy is
Contagious - Spread It”
through out the school year
fa each school in Chowan
county. Just like most
Tauslnessce have a slogan
which represents their
business, our slogan for
Edenton - Chowan Schools
is: Courtesy is Contagious -
Spread It. Our aim is to
enable each child to develop
and demonstrate respect for
seif, respect for school and
respect for community, die
nation and the world.
- Part of our courtesy
theme is showing courtesy
toward flag and country.
Everywhere in the world
people have ways of
showing respect for their
country’s flag. A country’s
flag stands for all the people
of a country. It stands for all
the people whoever fought
for the country. It stands for
the great leaders, the
lawmakers, the scientist
and the artist who brought
fame to the country. It
stands for all the good
citizens whoever lived in the
country. When people show
respect for their country’s
flag they are showing
respect for their fellow
citizens. To reinforce the
fact that our country is die
greatest country in the
world we show respect for
our country and our fellow
citizens by respecting our
flag. This school year we are
stressing courtesy and
respect in all we do. Respect
for the flag and country is a
strong emphasis. Parents
and students are en
couraged to discuss this
emphasis at home.
. School personnel are
pleased to hear any ideas
from students, parents, and
citizens concerning ways
and means to place special
emphasis on courtesy and
respect in our schools. A
suggestion request has been
sent home with each student
and a copy was also mailed
with each copy of our local
newspaper. A major goal of
the Edenton - Chowan Board
of Education is to achieve
the distinction of becoming
North Carolina’s most
courteous school system. To
achieve this distinction,
every school is involved in
the Courtesy is Contagious
Campaign.
Incur schools this year all
of our students and staff
members are expected to
communicate with one
another in a courteous and
respectful manner. They
are encouraged to use such
terms as “Thank you”,
“You are welcome”, and
“Please”.
We want to encourage
students to look sharp, be
neat, act responsibly. It is
important to dress ap
propriately and to use good
manners. When we do this
we set a good example for
others. It is our aim to show'
parents and other visitors
that our school system is the
best. This emphasis on dress
encourages everyone to
develop a concern for
neatness and cleanliness.
The way we dress should
reflect acceptable behavior
as well as good manners.
