GOVERNOR WHEREAS, the prosperity and well-being of all citizens of North Carolina depend on both the products and services of industry and agriculture; and WHEREAS, the increasing complexity of problems and the divergence of activities in industry and agriculture create the need for closer communication between these two sectors of our economy; and WHEREAS, there is a continued need for farm people and city people to recognize that they are partners in progress and must work together to assure the continued advancement of our state; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that we recognize the modern inter dependence of rural and urban society through appropriate observances and events across the state; now THEREFORE, I, James B. Hunt, Jr., Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim the week of November 19-25, 1982, as FARM AND CITY WEEK in North Carolina and commend this observance to our citizens. Hollowell-Blount Rexall Drugs FARM-CITY WEEK Farm-City Observance County citizens join with 15,000 other communities across (he United States in Farm-City Week programs this year. As in the past, Farm-City Week will be the week immediately preceding Thanksgiving Day. Hie dates this year are Nov. 19-25. In commending this observance to North Carolinians, Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. said there is a continued need for farm people to recognize they are partners in progress. “The prosperity and well-being of all citizens of North Carolina depend on the products and ser vices of both industry and agriculture,’’ the Governor said. “Heading Farm-City Week activities locally is Mr. Wesley Chesson, Jr. The statewide chairman is Mr. Frank Boyette, an agribusiness and banking leader from Lumberton. The state vice chairman is Mr. John H. Hendrick, a poultry farmer and agribusinessman from Shelby. Staff members of the N.C. Agricultural Extension Service coordinate many of the Farm-Gtty Week activities across the State. Nutrition Continued From Paco 2 trained to make referrals to ap propriate agencies. Likewise, various agencies refsr potential program participants to Ex tension : Food Stamp and Donated Food Programs; Social Sarvice Departments; Health Depart ments; Public Housing Authority; Farmers Home Administration; Community Action Programs; Food Emergency Programs; Head Start; Employment Com mission; Social Security ; Chur ches; Veterans Administration; Community Colleges and Technical Institutes; Family Planning Clinics; Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, etc. The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program is working, despite the limited resources and myriad problems which the families have. Without the program, the thousands of families and individuals which we have reached would probably have never been shown the alternatives to monotonous diets and poor nutrition even when I family income is so very small.
