Then, on another level, we are thankful for the freedom we enjoy in this Land of Opportunity; and, there is an even higher level of thanksgiving that has to do with a feeling deep down in side for our church and for churches everywhere. We are thankful for our relationship to God which brings us to church and which brings so much joy to our lives. But, there is a deeper approach to thanksgiving which we should be thinking about today - we need to think about the con trast between saying “I thank you, God” and truly being thankful. Words are easy to say. The truly thankful person considers all that is involved in having food on our tables. Food comes from the earth which was given to us by God. If a person is truly thankful, they will pledge themselves as stewards of our natural resources. The truly thankful person looks at the blessings we en joy and wants to involve himself or herself in the af fairs of the community so that the freedoms we enjoy will burn forever in this great land. Our Religious Freedom is precious. Let us involve ourselves in the life and ministry of the church - free ly and actively. The “saying” side of thanksgiving is not enough - it is the “being” side that counts. Let us show our thankfulness and gratitude to God by becoming involved in our church, our community and government so that all the things that are dear and precious to us will be preserved.
