Confronted with that infor mation last week, Hunt aide Brent Hackney said, “We’ve got to get the freeze off first before we can even talk in crease. Then in April, if the economy has turned up, we can talk about across-the board increases.” Hackney, understandably, refuses to be drawn in to discussions of how big the across-the-board raise might be, if at all. But educated guesses now center around the six per cent mark. Even a 6 per cent raise, across-the-board, would re quire about slls-million in ad ditional state revenues— something not anywhere on the horizon at this time. Still, there seems little doubt that North Carolina teachers and state employees can look to a little better financial offering from the legislators this com ing year than last. ALSO GETTING READY....A lot of legislators have been in and out of town recently, also getting ready for the 1983 session. Some of them are arriving for the first time and are making themselves comfortable in their new offices. The prescribed business on the agenda, however, has been a myriad of committee and commission meetings.
