Bulkheaded ~~—^75,000 Call for appointment 482-2397 482-2112 SECTION B DECA Session Recently Mrs. Sandra Fairdoth, DECA advisor, and Sharon Hollowell, District One Vice-President attended the Distributive Education Clubs of Americas District Of ficer Training session held at the Hilton Inn in Winston- Salem. Opening session began Fri day night at 7:00. There was a leadership session followed by a Taco Party. Saturday started off with a business breakfast and then followed by workshops. North Carolina’s DECA State Of ficers hosted the workshops. The workshops included: 1) How to dress and act as a DECA officer; 2) How to use time to your advantage; 3) The DECA Price is Right; and 4) an impromptu public speaking session. The workshops were en joyed by Mrs. Faircloth and Sharon. Sharon has been very active in DECA activities this local chapter. Sharon plans to run for State Vice-President in the Spring. beneficiaries who have ex hausted their Medicare coverage. Youth Council Grants Are you a member of a Chowan County youth group or an organization which is planning an innovative youth project? Would a little money help? Funds are available to assist you. The N.C. State Youth Coun cil awards grants three times VA Administrator to submit a report to Congress by July 1, 1984, on the agency’s use of flexible and compressed work schedules. Tax Underpayments GREENSBORO-The an nual interest rate charged by the Internal Revenue Service on tax underpayments and overpayments will decrease from 20 to 16 per cent on January 1, 1983. The rate on the underpay ment of individual and cor porate estimated taxes will also slide into 16 per cent, the IRS said. The interest rate is changed simi-annually by October 15 and April 15, and based on the average prime interest rate for the 6-month period ending September 30 and March 31, respectively. The next change in the interest rate, if any, will be made next April. Games will begin next week for the Senior League and im mediately after Christmas for all other leagues. There are still a few teams that need a coach. If you have a few hours a week available to help the youth of the community please call the Recreation Department at 482-8595. Adult Basketball All teams planning on being in this year’s Open League are reminded of the entry fee deadline this Friday, Dec. 10. The season will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Thursday Night Basketball All men who meet the following qualifications are invited to come enjoy an in formal night of basketball and exercise on Thursdays star ting December 9. You must be at least 25 years old or older, not be a participant in any other league, and consider yourself “over the hill”. Be at the Recreation Department at 7 P.M. to get in on all the fun. To advoid that bulge that often develops around the midsection during the winter months, the Recreation Dept, is offering an aerobic exercise class that can help you cope with it. Julie Spivey and Terry Rothberger, both cer tified in CPR, are teaching this exciting class that meets every Monday and Wednes day evening at 6 P.M. Ping Pong Tourney Results A total of 28 participants matched their skills in the Edenton-Chowan Rec. Dept. Table Tennis tournament held last week. After 3 rounds of exciting play only Mandy Peeples, Scott Dizon, Gregory Bonner and Russell Lassiter had survived. In the semifinals, Dizon defeated Peeples 21-9, 21-12, 21-13 and Lassiter outlasted Bonner 21-14,21-17,21-14 to move into the championship round. After much fast and furious action Russell Lassiter emerged as the 1982 champ by defeating Dizon 21-15, 21-18, 21-16. Each of the finalists were awarded. Thanks to all participants for making the tourney a success. Wassail Bowl The Cupola House Associa tion will host its annual Christmas Wassail Bowl on Sunday, December 12, from 2 to 7 P.M. at the Cupola House. The house will be decorated for the holidays by the Garden of Eden Garden Club and music will be furnished by Susan Rodgers, harpist, of Elizabeth City, and the Eden ton Choral Society.
