(Photo by Harold Nichols) Riddick Earns Honors First place honors went to Ernest Riddick in the Eastern Regional Wrestling Tourna ment in Goldsboro on Satur day. Riddick, a 235 pound heavy weight, defeated Mar tin of Richmond County High School by a 12-2 decision in the quarter finals. He won against Elliott from Cape Fear Hid), 9-1. In the cham pionship finals, the Aces senior pinned Milligan of Hog gard High School. Milligan was the top seeded wrestler from the Fayetteville Sectionals. 1983 Annual Truck Registration Updated By The Division Os Motor Vehicles RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transporta tion’s Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is in the pro cess of updating 1983 annual truck registration renewals. In reviewing this process, it was determined that some truck owners might have overlooked the fact that an nual truck renewals were re quired to be completed by midnight, February 15. The review also found 1983 truck renewal cards that were mailed indicated a 15-day grace period. This is in error since all annual truck renewals for trucks licensed for 5,000 lbs. gross weight and above should have been com pleted by February 15, 1983. These vehicles, operating after February 15, must display 1983 tags. Vehicles which are not currently registered for 1983 would or dinarily be issured a citation for 1983 license fees and assessed a civil penalty, ac cording to DMV officials. Commissioner of Motor Vehicles R. W. Wilkins, Jr. stated, however, that, “The civil penalty for North Carolina registered vehicles R J Reynolds Donates For Faculty Exchange Program The Veterans Administra tion has some suggestions to help students avoid delays in their VA education payments. Every month 600,000 VA checks worth more than *2OO-million are mailed to veteran-students and to eligi ble dependents, and the agen cy wantiT to do everything possible tij avoid delays. In an attempt to avoid possible delays, the VA sug gests the following: •Whets ir student feels the initial payment for the school term haSlfeen delayed, he er she shbdtt check with the school fiflfed out the date the enrollment certificate was sent to thi VA. At least four weeks sRB&d be allowed from that date Afore an education check cats be expected. Last week in the Greenville Sectional Tournament, Rid dick won 3 matches, pinning each of his opponents. He woo the first place medal in the Sectionals for the second straight year. Undefeated Riddick, 20-0, and Coach Randy Hollowel] travel to Winston-Salem to the State Wrestling Tournament today (Thursday). Competi tion begins at 10:00 A.M. Fri day, culminating in the Championship Finals, Satur day evening. will be waived during the period of February 16, 1963 through March 2,1983 at mid night provided the necessary registration fees for 1963 are paid. We have taken this ac tion since the registration renewal cards could have been misleading. This would, in no way, relieve the owner of the normal fees assessed for the truck registration or overweight penalities. “If a trucker is stopped without up-to-date plates be tween now and midnight -on March 2, he would be required to pay registration fees at that time but not assessed the civil penalty.” Wilkins noted that more than 97 per cent of the truck owners involved have already renewed their registrations prior to the February 15th deadline and are not affected by this process. Action has already been taken to correct the printing process so that registration renewal cards printed for trucks registered for 5,000 lbs. and above will not show the 15-day grace period in the future, DMV officials said. *lf an advance payment check is expected, the student should make sure the re quired written request was signed. The specific request for the advance money should have beat submitted te VA at least a month before the beginning of the semester. •Students who have gotten education benefits in the past should consider whether an overpayment is outstanding. If an overpayment exists, cur rent benefits ars withheld un til the overpayment is recovered by the VA. For Anther information on pooiiMo payment delays contact the nearest VA regional office.
