| NEW AMBULANCE PURCHASED—Hie county has purchased the above Ford Type 11, van ambulance for the Chowan
County Emergency Medical Services. The ambulance was purchased from Emergency Vehicle Services, Inc. of Greenville.
It was put into service on February 16 after it was inspected and given an ambulance permit. The new ambulance will be
stationed at Unit 1 in Edenton. Pictured above with the ambulance are, from left to right: Douglas Belch, Coordinator

area youth to get a better
break in life. The club also
sponsors Bicycle and
Pedestrian Safety Programs,
Drug Awareness Programs,
and the Law Enforcement Ap
preciation Award each year.

An Awards Program will be
held for all players and
parents who participated in
the youth basketball pro
gram. This program will be
held Thursday, March 17 at
7:00.
Midget Girls
The Midget girls concluded
their season with three ex
citing games.
The Court Queens went in
to overtime to record their
first win of the season, 5-2
over the Tom Girls. Dawn
Young hit the front end of a
one and one with 2 seconds
left to send the game into OT.
Paula Lane poured in 3 of her
game leading 4 points to seal
the victory.
Hie lady Pirates and Tom
Girls battle for first place saw
the Lady Pirates pull away in
the fourth quarter to a 14-6
win. After being tied 6-6 at
half Kendra White took
charge with 8 of her 14 points.
Leslie Redmen had 6 points to
lead the Tom Girls.
The Court Queens proved
their first win was no fluke
and promptly defeated the
Lady Pirates, 12-6. Dawn
Young burned the net with 8
points to lead the Queens.
Kendra White had 4 points for
the Lady Pirates.
These games brought the
Midget Girls season to a close
with the standings as follows:
Lady Pirates 4-2, Tom Girls
3-3, Court Queens 2-4.
Congratulations to all the
players and coaches on an
outstanding season.
Midget Boys
Kings Wear Crown
The Nuggets had one of
their first finest games and
defeated the Bullets 38-20.
Willie Holley found the range
and led all scorers with 18
points. Mickey Bonner led the
Bullets with 14 pts.
The Spurs outscored the
Kings 7-0 in the first quarter
and cruised to a 27-22 win over
the Kings. Wallace Holley
scored 9 points with Derrick
Felton and Herbert McPher
son adding 7 bach for the
Spurs. Tony White had 10
points for the Kings.

The win gave the Kings and
Spurs identical 6-2 records
and forced an additional
game to decide the 1982-83
Midget Champs.
By defeating the Spurs 24-22
the Kings were crowned the
regular season champs. The
Kings led the game from the
opening tip but could never
put the Spurs away as the
teams traded baskets for
most of the 2nd half. In the
end the Kings scored the
points they needed to win.
Tony White led the Kings with
8 points, Don Small had 8
points to lead the Spurs.
The final regular season
standings are as follows:
Kings 7-2, Spurs 6-3, Nuggets
3- Bullets 3-5, Jazz 2-6.
The Midget Boys Allstar
team was announced with the
following boys to represent
Edenton-Chowan in Tarboro
on Friday, February 25 at
6:00. Andre’ Bond, Mickey
Bonner, Derrick Felton,
Robert Granby, Wallace
Holley, Willie Holley, Troy
Parks, Blake Roberson, Don
Small and Tony White. Chuck
Paylin and Linnard Bonner
will coach the team.
Jr. Boys
The Blazers used an 18
point 4th quarter to put away
the Lakers, 45-29. Kevin
Wrighton led the winners with
17 points. Kevin Battle had 8
points for the Lakers.
The Knicks clinched second
place with a 31-25 victory over
Perquimans. Roy Harrell
pumped in 16 points to lead
the Knicks. Randy Lassiter
had 10 for Perquimans.
Final standings show
Blazers 7-1, Knicks 5-3, Nets
4- Perquimans 3-5, Lakers
1-7.

petition to be played in New
Bern are: Kevin Battle, Lee

The Senior boys sharpened
their skills this week to
prepare for the tournament in
Tarboro on Feb. 25.

Douglas Elliott and Jimmy
Dillard combined for 30 points
to lead Valhalla Hre over
Tanzer Yachts 56-45. Jim
Morton scored 16 points with
Wayne Copeland adding 12
pts. for Tanzer.
The Bruins moved over .500
with a 59-50 win over
Greenleaf. Edward Walker
led the Bruins with 17 points.
Mike Holley totaled 16 points
for Greenleaf.
GHP showed no signs of
easing up after capturing Ist
place and sunk Tanzer Yachts
87-38. Delmonte Johnson
poured in 23 points to lead
GHP. Jim Morton had 10 for
Tanzer.
The Bruins showed no mer
cy to Lee’s BP as they chalk
ed up a 90-30 victory. Frank
Hardy and Edward Walker
had 20 points to lead the
Bruins with Tony Johnson ad
ding 19 more. Vondell Nor

Basketball Contests
The Recreation Depart
ment will sponsor both a Free
Throw Shooting Contest and a
Hot Shot Shooting Contest for
ages 10 through adults. The
ages will be broken down into
the following groups: 10-12,
13-15, 16-18 and 19 and over.
All those entered will compete
in your own age group.
Trophies will be awarded to
the first place winner in each
group. Those entering the
Free Throw will shoot 25 at
tempts with the most made
winning. The Hot Shot
Shooting Contest will be
shooting for one minute from
five designated spots on the
gym floor. There is no fee to
enter either event. Sign up at
the Recreation Department
office. You may compete at
your own convenience.
PTA Meeting Set
The White Oak PTA
meeting will be held on Mon
day night, February 28th,
1983, at 7:01 P.M. We invite all
