Babeaux Completes Training PV-2 Denise L. Babeaux, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Babeaux of Mont pelier Drive, Edenton, North Carolina, completed her basic training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. During her basic training PV-2 Babeaux obtained an Expert classification in both rifle and hand grenade. After basic, she went to Ft. Gordan, Georgia for 11 weeks of training to become a tele type operator. PV-2 Babeaux, while stationed at Ft. Gordan received two performance awards on her work at the training center. PV-2 Babeaux has just been transferred to Wurzburg, West Germany, where she is attached to B company of the 123 signal battalion. Linwood Wright is the Outstanding Logistics Plans Officer of the Year for Bth Air Wins Gold Award Diversified Media Produc tions, an independent televi sion production company in Greenville, N.C. was presented a Gold Addy Award for their television commer cial for Speight Seed Farms of Winterville, N.C. The Gold Addy, in the Regional/Na tional Category, was presented by the Eastern Carolina Advertising Federa tion, an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation. The commercial, using state of the art com puter graphics, was produced by Janet Gaino; directed by David Balch ; computer art by Charles Kesler. The original jingle was written by J.K. Loftin and sung by Charles Lahnn and produced by Richard Royall at Mega Sound Studios in Bailey, N.C. Having won the Gold, the commercial will now go on to compete against commer cials from other parts of the country. Force. The logistic plans officer for the 34th Strategic Squadron here received congratulations from Lt. Gen. William Camp bell, Bth AF commander. The criteria for the award include professionalism and ac complishments in the logistics plans career field. Larry Brandt and SSgt. Chris Bottoms.” May Play Day The 1983 May Play Day is coming May 7. Raymond has placed on a district level for three years. Poster Winners The Chowan County Con servation Poster Contest was held on Wednesday, February 23 at Swain Elementary School. This was the 30th year for the contest which is spon sored by the Chowan Board of Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors. This year, for the first time, the students were assigned a specific topic for the contest. They could prepare their poster on any idea relating to the topic of “Conservation of Soil and Water, Our Hope for the Future.” The posters were judged based on the following points: How the con servation idea is presented, 50 points; originality, 25 points; artistic ability, 15 points; and neatness, 10 points. Winners in this year’s con test were: Fourth grade: first place - Adam Evans and se cond place - Tina Harris, both from Swain School; Fifth grade; first place - Clif Har ris and second place - Melissa Lawrence, both from Swain School; and Sixth grade; first place - Raymond Martin Potts, Chowan Junior High, and second place - Don Small, Swain School. Cash prizes of $lO were presented to the first place winners and $5 to the second place winners. A $3 prize was also presented to room win ners for those rooms not hav ing a county winner. Robert Harrell, Chowan Conserva tion District Supervisor, made these presentations to each student. The county first and second place winners competed with winners from Camden, Cur rituck, Pasquotank and Per quimans in the Albemarle District Poster contest held on March 3. Winning students from all five counties were honored guest at a luncheon sponsored by the Albemarle Electric Membership Cor poration. Also attending the luncheon were parents, teachers and school officials, and conservation district supervisors. Raymond Martin Potts from Chowan Junior Higth School won second place for the sixth grade in the District Contest. The District Supervisors wish to express their ap preciation to the students, school officials, and the Albemarle Electric Member ship (Corporation for making this contest possible.
