Broad Sheet ratac-cn SU’s ability to recruit top level, high achieving students. As a result of pro ceeds from two previous pro ductions, three students are currently enrolled, on full scholarships, at ECSU. “Since students who have excelled academically, like top-rated athletes, go where the money is, we need to con tinually expand our resources in order to be more com petitive,” Dr. Jimmy R. Jenkins, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, stressed. Secondly, “Scholarcade ‘B3’’ certainly gives the public an excellent opportunity to see professionals in roles other than teaching classes, administering programs, preparing reports, etc. The show brings together a long list of ECSU administrative, faculty, staff and student per sonnel who, “seeing the need, have answered the call from Vice Chancellor Jenkins.” Thus, the public will again come closer to more fully realizing that college pro fessors can do much more than lecture on Einstein’s theory of relativity or Dewey’s philosophy of education. Dr. Jenkins and, possibly, two other Vice Chancellors plan to leave their desks to head the long list of per formers in this year’s show which includes fashions, in strumental music, skits, vocal selections, dances, skits and a “high kicking” chorus line. Persons desiring advance tickets to “Scholarcade ‘83,” Sunday, March 27, should con tact any ECSU employee. Ad mission prices have been set at $5.00 for adults and $2.50 for students. Door prizes will be awarded lucky ticket holders. Completes Claes Navy Electrician’s Mate Fireman Antonio R. Division of Sandoz, Inc . Lincoln. Nebraska 68501 THE CHOWAN HERALD Letter To The Editor Dear Editor: The UNC Center for Public Television is currently holding Festival ‘B3, its an nual fund-raising drive. Thu year’s goal, $1.2 million, is needed to update and main tain equipment, and to pro vide such varied programs as Sesame Street, Stateline, Nova, Masterpiece Theatre and American Playhouse, Dr. Who, The Mark Russell Specials, The World at War, Soundstage, and the Wood wright’s Shop. These shows and many others must be pur chased from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting or produced at the state level, and they are very expensive. The people who work at Festival ‘B3 are all volunteers. Even the Center employees you see on the air are there on their own time. I had the op portunity to meet and work with some of these people, and I was very impressed with their dedication. But they can’t do it without the support of the viewers. Last year, only 3% of the Center’s viewers made pledges. This year we must do much better. In the first ten days of Festival, only nine pledges were received from Chowan County. Surely there are more people in this county who watch public tv! I realize that money is tight, but even a small pledge would be greatly appreciated. After all, if each of the Center’s estimated million and a half viewers sent in a dollar, we will have surpassed our goal. If you watch public television, please help foot the bill. If you don’t watch it, try it, and “see how great tv can be.” How can you help? Call 1-962-1212. A volunteer will take your name, address, and the amount of your pledge. Then you’ll receive a pledge Whit* \ SAVE $l4O ON PAIR Washer has 2 speeds. 6 Dryer heat shuts off au cycles and 5 water tem- tomatically when preset peratures.
