The Chowan Recreation Report
Youth Baseball Registration
Registration for all youth
baseball leagues for this
spring and summer is now
open. Any boy or girl age 6-18
living in Chowan County may
sign up to play on one of the
Recreation Department
teams. Registration is taken
every week day from 8:30 -
5:30 at the Rec. Dept, office.
Forms may be picked up at
the Rec. Dept, office in the
Old National Guard Armory
or at the schools. A large turn
out is expected so register as
early as posible.
Softball Entry Fees Due
Men’s softball teams in
terested in participating in
the 1983 Summer Softball
League must pay the entry
fee by April 18th. Women’s
teams interested in playing
must pay the entry fee by
April 25th. Fees may be paid
at the Recreation Dept, any
weekday between the hours of
8:30 and 5:30.
Storekeepers and Umpires
Clinics
Clinics will be held on April
20th at 7:00 for anyone in
terested in umpiring or keep
ing score for recreation
league teams this summer.

Tennis Tournament
The Edenton-Chowan
Department will sponsor a
Tennis Tournament April
22-24th. Categories include
women’s singles and doubles
and men’s singles and
doubles. Divisions will be in
flights, not ages, so that
players compete against
players of equal ability. Each
category will be divided into
the following flights: Flight A
- advanced, Flight B - in
termediate, and Flight C -
beginner. Entry fees will be
$4.00 plus a new can of balls
for singles and $6.00 plus a
new can of tennis balls per
team for doubles. Registra
tion ends April 18th at 5:30.

received the Employee of the
Year Award.

Preservation Fundraiser Is Slated
Ova- 150 preservationists
from all parts of North
Carolina are expected to
gather in Southern Pines in
April for a fundraising party
to benefit the Historic Preser
vation Society of North
Carolina, Inc.
The event is scheduled for
April 30 at historic Weymouth
House in the heart of Southern
Pines.
Sam Ragan, editor of the
award-winning Southern
Pines daily newspaper, “The
Pilot,” is honorary chairman
of the event. “Our party
celebrates historic preserva
tion in North Carolina,” ac
cording to Mr. Ragan. “Our
purpose is to honor the
Friends of Weymouth, Inc.,
and to benefit and promote
the Historic Preservation
Society of NC. Everyone is in
vited to participate in this ex
citing occasion.”
Invitations to the April 30
cocktail buffet will be sent in
early April to members of the
Historic Preservation Socie
ty, the Moore County
Historical Association, the
Malcolm Blue Historical
Society, and the Friends of
Weymouth. Everyone ii-urg
ed to attend the function,
which begins at 6 P.M.
Tickets are $25 per person.
Proceeds from the occasion
Some studies have shown that people working at home put
