Page 6-A May Day Plans Set Not to be satisfied with last year's outstanding event, the committee, composed of Chowan Arts Council members under the direetio* of Mary Ann Morris, is deter mined to make May Play Day, 1983 even better. The Rocky Hock Community Center has been chosen again as the site for the community arts festival, which will be held May 7. Over 47 performances by professional and nonprofes siooal entertainers have been scheduled to run throughout the day on the indoor and out door stage. In addition to the arts and crafts show and sale, the visual arts area will be ex panded to include demonstra tions by artists working with a variety of materials. Very much at the heart of this arts festival is the belief that art is for everyone. Fur thermore, the committee believes that art is fun and in vites active participation, and active participation certainly will be the core of May Play Day activities for the children. The Children’s Corner, canopied in brightly colored cloth and decorated with balloons will lure children into Cardboard Village byway of the Tunnel-Totem Pole where they will be provided brush, paint and license to create their own architectural fan tansies. The youngsters will also do some face painting, finger painting, and sand painting. Ring Date Is Extended GREENSBORO - This year, more than 50,00 North Carolinians will file their Federal tax returns after the April 15 deadline with permis sion from the Internal Revenue Service. These taxpayers, unable to get everything together to send in on time, will request for an extension to file, Glen Jones, IRS public affairs of ficer, said.‘‘The Cqggrsg«{MS extended the extratime from 60 days to 120 days.” he stated. “This means that a person requesting the exten sion will automatically have until August 15 in which to file the 1962 return.” Jones that the 120-day delay is for FILING the return, not for paying any tax due, and that taxpayers who will owe money but want the extension should send in at least 80 per cent of the amount expected to be owed with the request for extension. That request is made on Form 4868, available in most libraries, some banks and post offices, and larger IRS offices throughout the state. The form can also be ordered by phoning 1-800-241-3860, toll free; however, phone orders should be made as soon as possible to ensure delivery before April 15. The request for extension must be postmarked by mid night, April 15 and sent to: Memphis IRS Center, Mem phis, Tennessee 37501. Persons who do not file on time, nor ask for the exten sion will be penalized on the unpaid tax balance at the rate of 5 per cent per month. The late pay penalty is one-half of 1 per cent per month, and the annual interest rate is 16 per cent, both on the unpaid balance. Tennis Tourney April 22-24 The Edenton-Chowan Recreation Department will sponsor a Tennis Tournament April 23-34th. Categories in clude women’s singles and doubles. Divisions will be in flights, not ages, so that players compete against players of equal ability. Each category will be divided into the following flights: Flight A advanced, Flight B- in termediate, Flight C-:begia ner. Entry fees will be 94.00 ph»a new can of balls for tingles and *6.00 plus a new can of tennis balls per team Mr doubles Kegfcti atton ends April 18th at 5:3b. (kune by tbr Recreation to sign up or <vMJ' 482X.*»»5 for more uJrjrmatimi With George and .Brent McKecuen the children will learn about making pottery. L.P. Hornthal will treat fa Imam Aik a tavorue swrywiw iron uw Pettigrew Regional Library, will bring some of her best stories. For a change of pace Delores Hollewall will lead a sing-a-long and Marsha Gor don will introduce the youngsters to creative dance. Lori and Teresa Hollowall will lead a baton twirling workshop and JuUe Spivey will lead another series of movement activities called moueerdse. Just for fun, the Chowan- Edenton Optimist Club will once again be providing free rides on the Optimist Chib Train and directing a variety of games and contests. The children’s Corner is one of five areas of interest plann ed for May Play Day, 1963. Each area has been planned to introduce a wide variety of art forms, some old favorites and some less familiar; therefore, the arts festival will be educational. And like the Children’s Corner, each area has been planned for fun; everyone can expect to have a good time.
