Huuml.i> . April “ i i To The Editor IH'itr Sir: The reports continue to come in of loyal alumni, students, and friends of other colleges and universities and of other citizens from every quarter who were Wolfpack supporters “on the road to Albuquerque," and who have expressed their enthusiastic affection and tribute since. We are overwhelmed by the tremendous enthusiasm not only in. North Carolina but also from other states and other campuses. < I wish to express the thanks and deep appreciation of N.C. State University to each and everyone of them. I particularly wish to say thanks to the Carolina, Wake Forest, and Duke fans and those from other institutions who joined in the spirit of the times. We are most grateful. It has been a great experience. The kind of public spirit that has been manifest in the past few weeks in the “highly visible” athletics field will have many positive benefits in other arenas as well. We wish especially to thank the sports writers and reporters, the broadcasters, editors, and many, many others in the media who reported and commented upon the story of the “Cardiac Pack” so very well. We look forward to having the opportunity of reflecting a similar spirit of great sports manship and support in the future for other schools. Warm regards, Bruce R. Poulton Chancellor, NCSU Health Week RALEIGH—Gov. James B. Hunt, Jr., has proclaimed the week of April 17-23, 1983, as Public Health Week in North Carolina. The purpose of the observance is to emphasize the importance of good health and to make North Caroli nians more aware of the public health services available to them. Each year, thousands of . North Carolinians become [ victims of heart disease, ac "! dents - I blems ants chronic inn»s@s such as diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease, according to state health director Dr. Ronald Leviqe. Many of these health problems could have been prevented or btetter controll ed, he said. “We have an excellent public health system in North Carolina, one that provides quality health care to thousands of people,” Levine emphasized. “But, prevention is the real key to living hap pier, healthier lfves. It is our best protection against disease, chronic illnesses, and the personal and financial burdens that go along with them.” Levine said North Caroli nians must develop good habits that include nutrition, ' more exercise and periodic health check-ups if they want to remain healthy. Public Health Week is being sponsored by the N.C. Depart ment of Human Resources’ Division of Health Services, the UNC School of Public Health, the North Carolina Public Health Association, the N.C. Citizens for Public Health, Inc., and the N.C. Association of Local Health Directors. During this observance local health departments and other public health agencies have scheduled a variety of programs and activities that include health department tours, exhibits, health fairs, fun runs, and bike-a-thons. “Good health practices, started, early, become good health habits for life,” Levine said. “If we can teach our adults how to better take care of themselves and their children, it will help protect us and future generations against illness and disease. That’s why Public Health Week is so important.” i gua per DOUBLE COUPONS 1 A I MANUFACTURER’S V. ■ rnimnu ncccoc Between now and March we ■ ___ VM 1 CBUPOH OFFtRS - TSSSSSSStSiX r Swings are Great with ASP s I I DOUBLE SAVINGS COUPONS!
