By Saturday evening, May
7, a number of people are go
ing to kick off their shoes,
prop up their aching feet, and
breathe a sigh of relief. With
much hard work and some
cooperation from Mother
Nature, these people will have
pulled together another May
Play Day.
Members of the Chowan
Arts Council, under the direc
tion of Mary Ann Morris, have
volunteered many hours to
organize this year’s com

and coordinating such an
event requires a number of
committees functioning at
maximum capacity.
Elsie Currin has engaged
over 30 craftsmen involved in
woodworking, chair caning,
stained glass, doll making,
cross stitching, crochet,
basket weaving, tatting, fur
niture making, liquid, em
broidery, and pottery. Mary
Ann Barham has enlisted 16
artists who will exhibit pain
tings, silhouettes, cartoons,
charcoal drawings and
art.
Bonnie Bachman has coor
dinated the community in
terest exhibits, while Joy
Jones has put together many
exciting hands-on activities in
the Children’s Corner.
