Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. & Mrs. Wesley Merritt Chesson, Jr. of Edenton. The bride, given in mar riage by her father, wore her mother’s wedding gown of white illusion over satin with a scalloped neckline appli qued with Chantilly lace and basque bodice. The pointed sleeves and back were fasten ed with satin covered buttons. Her full skirt was formed with panels of lace applique which extended the length of the cathedral train. Her fqll length veil of illusion was caught to a cloche of Chantil ly lace trimmed with bridal wyeath. She carried a bouquet of bridal roses and stephanotis centered with a white orchid. Following the nuptial vows, the bride and groom knelt on a white satin pillow made by the groom’s maternal great-grandmother. Wedding musicians includ ed the pianist, Miss Julie Williard, Miss Susan Davis, both of Chapel Hill, N.C., and organist, Miss Jean Hatch, of Clinton. The maid of honor, Miss Teresa Lynn Lanier, of Chapel Hill, wore a full-length skirt of pink linen with a white cotton top with spaghetti straps, and.a white eyelet overblouse, belted at the waist with lavender ribbon. She carried a bouquet of mix ed flowers which included pink roses, variegated miniature carnations, Dutch iris, and statice. The Bridesmaids were Miss Mary Leah Davison and Miss Sheryl Leigh Thomas of Raleigh, N.C.; Mrs. C. Hayden McKenzie of High Point, N.C. and Mrs. {Robert E. Durham of Atlanta, Ga. The bridesmaids wore the same style dresses as the maid of honor, and also car ried mixed flowers. Junior bridesmaids were Elizabeth Currin Chesson from Chapel Hill, N.C. and Meredith Marie Chesson from Raleigh, nieces of the bridegroom. They wore long dresses of white eyelet over pink lawn, and carried iden tical flowers. The best man was the father of the groom, Wesley Merritt Chesson, Jr. The ushers in cluded Mr. Wesley Merritt Chesson, 111 from Raleigh, Mr. Earl Goodwin Chesson from Chapel Hill, Mr. Arthur Robert Harris, Jr. from Clin ton, and James Holmes Chesson from Edenton. v After the pecoption at the, * Coharie Club, the couple left' on their honeymoon to Bermuda. The bride graduated from Salem Academy, Winston- Salem, N.C. and North Carolina State University, Raleigh, N.C. where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and Psi Chi honor society. The Chowan County Democratic Women’s Club held a reorganization meeting at a noon luncheon at Mrs. Boswell's Restaurant on March 11,1983. Lane Kinion, chairman of the nominating committee, presented a list of new officers: President, mary Partin; First Vice- President, Pansy Elliott ; Se cond Vice-President, Helen Hollowell; Third Vice- President, Mary Horton; Secretary, Dorothy Graham; Treasurer, Hurley Winbome; Corresponding Secretary, Hettie Wallace. It was voted to accept the slate of officers by acclamation. The club voted that, due to an increase in state dues, the local dues be raised from SI.OO to $2.00. It was also voted that three meetings a year be held with speakers, and addi tional called meetings if the executive board determines a need. The president appointed a committee to study the con stitution and by-laws of the Edenton-Chowan group for possible revision. Society Moo* Mr. and Mrs. Maynard M. Perry spent last weekend in Winston-Salem and attended the Wake Forest University commencement exercises. Their granddaughter, Perry Elizabeth Shelly, was a member of the 1983 graduating class and receiv ed a degree in Economics. William E. Robertson at tended the Wake Forest University commencement held Monday, May 16th. Ok ftoo's Jsst Susan Whitehurst of Hobbs ville, N.C. has been placed on the Dean’s List at Cambell University. She achieved this honor by earning a 3.8 grade point average. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jessie W. White, Jr. Elliott volunteered to repre sent the local club at a District I Workshop to be held in Washington, N.C. on May 14th. It was also announced that a Spring Fling fund raiser would be held at the Women’s State Democratic Headquarters in Raleigh on May 25th. The Club voted to send $25.00 to the Goodwin House, State Women’s Democratic Headquarters, for refurnishing the kitchen. A discussion followed con cerning some of the goals to be accomplished by the Chowan County Democratic Women. Among these were: increasing the number of voters at general elections, working closely with the Women’s Political Caucus, and increasing the attendance at local meetings. All Democratic women in Chowan County are eligible for membership. Anne Jones announced a library reception to be held May 22, at 4 P.M. at the library, and urged all members to attend.
