Ms hard to find anyone in
tlrausiness of reporting and
wttng that is any better than
PB Harvey. The following
cSments are typical of his
wMknd insight.
Hiring the 1960’s the
BMes woe reshaping music

i|gndsight is better,
j&orge Leonard was in the
of the so-called

agbooks on the changing at
tfSde toward sex and
gfiferally approved it, helped

gy now believes all that

Hindsight is still better.
But are we doing now for

That we taught children to
calculate electronically
without teaching them why .
.. taught them the language
of computer to neglect of
spelling...
And will we remember
“busing” and blush? And with
chagrin will we remember
that, in violation of the law,
we allowed a continuing
avalanche of illegal immigra
tion resulting ip higher taxes,
fewer jobs; more crime, and
new-to-us diseases?
Hopefully, more civilized
by then, we will reflect with
shame on the hypocrisy of
waging war on “human” suf
fering while contributing to
the unspeakable agony of
animals. We will remember
that in our proper pre
occupation 'with remedying
white-black discrimination
we allowed black-white
discrimination.
For civilization at its
swiftest is two steps forward,
one step back. Hindsight is
clearer.
But will beable to look baek
- if we have talked.ourselves
out of nuclear peace-keeping
and left ourselves helplessly
outnumbered? In the from
here-on future the nation that
’ endures may be the one (hat
can learn from its mistakes -
before making*them.
Let’s hope so and let’s hope
that it is America that en
dures, Mr. Harvey. *
On a lighter side, let’s hope
this never happens to us: It
was the first day of school for
the five-year-old girl, and she
was very homesick. Finally
the teacher the teacher
helped her phone her mother
at home.
When her mother answered
the telephone, the little girl
was too shy to say anything.
Finally her mother asked who
was calling.
The child replied, “This is
your daughter, Virginia,” and
burst into tears, adding,
“Have you forgotten about
me already?”
An orange tree may bear
fruit for more than 100
year*.
