THE CHOWAN HERALD ~ Carolina’s Tweetsie Railroad Open For 27th Year BLOWING ROCK - Tweetsie Railroad, North Carolina’s premiere moun tain travel attraction and No. 1 family theme park will open for the 1983 season on May 28 and remain open through Oc tober 30. This is Tweetsie’s • 27th year of operation as a park. Special entertainment in the Tweetsie Palace this year will feature Tommy Faile, well-known radio, television and country and western recording headliner who has performed for folks from every walk of life - from farmer to two Presidents the United States. He has ap peared on national television shows with Arthur Godfrey and Kate Smith. For many years, he appeared with Ar thur Smith and went on to-his own radio and television shows. Tommy will be heading a' fine variety show which will include the North Carolina champions, the High Country Cloggers and the ever-popular Tweetsie Can- Can Girls. This year, Fred Kirby, long a favorite of the youngsters 1 will again be the Chief Mar shal at Tweetsie railroad, i Now on Saturdays and Sun days, Fred is of his loyal fans ana their children. This long term rela tionship has been a part of the aura of Tweetsie. “We are opening new areas of the park including a Magic i Shop and Craft Junction i where native mountain crafts : are demonstrated and sold”, offers Bill Williamson, direc tor of operations. “Our cool ; climate and a variety of entertainment appeal to the entire family. From our pet ting zoo and mouse mine at the top of the mountain down to our train ride and western show, it’s fun for all ages.” Tweetsie will be in full operation on weekends with United weekday operations until June 11 when all facilities will be open seven days a week. The attraction reverts to a weekend and limited weekday schedule from August 21 to October 30. Tweetsie will have their an nual Old-Timer’s Day on June Page 7-B 18 with special attention given to former railroad employees. On June 25, Arthur Smith, famous country and western musician will do a matinee performance at 3 P.M. fOrall to enjoy!
