Community Dixon looks to future after election win BY REGGIE PONDER • Editor . Newly reelected 2nd Ward Councilman Sam bo Dixon promised last week to continue working not only for residents of jus ward hut also to help Edenton be the best pos sible town for all its citi zyns. Dixon won a resounding reelec tion to the council seat in last week's Municipal Election in Edenton. Dixon finished with 10S votes to challenger George Grother's 69. Dixon, an attorney and Eden ton native, said shortly after hear ing the unofficial final results. “I’m looking forward to representing gave Dixon /I percent ot the vote and Grother 29 the 2nd ward again and carrying Edenton into the future.” Dixon said his goal for the upcoming term was “to continue Edenton's present course to be the best small town possible." Grother, a retired con tractor who moved to the town about a decade and a half ago, thanked all of those who had supported him. “I'm sorry for the lady who drove four hours af ter getting off a plane in Washington, D.C., to vote for me today,” Grother said. “I'm sorry I disap pointed her." There were 395 ballots cast in the Municipal Elec tion out of 3,142 registered voters, for a voter turnout of 12.6 percent. The 2nd Ward council seat was the only con tested race in Edenton Tuesday. Mayor Roland Vaughan was reelected with 335 votes, Council man-At-Large Steve Biggs was reelected with 334 votes, and 1st Ward Coun cilman Jintmy Stallings was reelected with 96 votes.
