Goodwin Margaret White Chestnutt EDENTON - Anna BeUe Privott, 98, of 106 Mark Drive, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, in Edenton Primetime. Miss Privott was born in Chowan County on August 30, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Charlie Daniel “Dan” Privott and Mary Jane “Mol lie” Harrell Privott. Retired from the Rocky Mount Senior High School, she taught for 42 years in the Rocky Mount, Fuquay, and Williamston school sys tems. While living in Rocky Mount, she was a mem ber of Lakeside Baptist Church, the Rocky Mount Garden Club, the Rocky Mount Business and Pro fessional Woman’s Club, and volunteered at Nash General Hospital. Presently the oldest member of Edenton Baptist Church, she had also been active in years past in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Erma Wiggins, Beulah Privott, Ol ivia Madre, Mary Ray, and Grace Blanchard; and by brothers, Lindsey, Ernest, Earl, Wilbur, and Carey Privott. Surviving are nieces, nephews, and other ex tended family members. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and were conducted by her pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Burial fol lowed in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends joined the family in the funeral home the hour prior to ser vices on Friday, and other times at the home of Sid and Norma White, 1709 Ocean Highway South, Edenton. Raised in the fellowship of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, after marriage she became a faith ful member of Edenton Baptist Church, where she was active in its W.M.U. and Laura Harrell Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colo nial Dames of America, and the Chowan County Extension Homemakers Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wallace Goodwin, Jr.; two sisters, Marjorie Privott and Shirley Platts; a brother, Wilbur Harrell; and a son-in-law, Charles Collins. Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn G. Ward and husband Bradley of Tyner, and Anna G. Col lins of Raleigh; a son, Joseph W. Goodwin, III and wife Kim of Edenton; two grandchildren, Bradley Harrell of Tyner, and Sarah Goodwin of Raleigh; two brothers, Gerald Harrell of Raleigh, and Gene Harrell and wife Diann of Cleveland, TN; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Privott of Chesterfield, MO, and Paul Platts of Edenton. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton Baptist Church and were conducted by The Revs. David Brooks and Patrick Cardwell. Burial followed in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Jack Durwood Bunch Sr. MOBILE - Jack Durwood Bunch Sr., born August 27, 1935 in Edenton, NC and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL passed away on January 25, 2018 at age 82. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 20 years and also retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years of service. He was a faith ful member of West Mobile Baptist Church. He vol unteered in past years with Meals on Wheels and was a former deacon. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Mr. Bunch is preceded in death by his parents Ellie and Elsie Bunch. He is survived by his wife, Clara Lane Bunch of 62 years; four children, Jack Jr. (Pam), Scott (Shelia), Jeff (Dennise) and Regina Bunch; five grandchildren, Hunter Bunch, Rachel Dunn, Jessica Dopke, Tracey Bunch and Amanda Powell; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmie (Myrtle) Bunch and Wayne (Betty) Bunch; two sisters, Audrey Leary and Glenda (Calvin) Par rish; as well as many other family members and friends. She was born Christmas morning 1929 in Edenton, NC to Herman Franklin and Margaret Speight White. She was a registered nurse, graduating from the North Carolina Bap tist Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She is sur vived by her three children, Bryan J. Chestnutt and wife Melisa of Durham, Mrs. Marsha C. LeDuke and husband John of Jacksonville, FL, and Bruce L. Chestnutt of Lake Panasoffkee, FL; five grand children: Maggie, Catherine and William Chestnutt of Durham, NC, David LeDuke of Jacksonville, FL, and James Webb of Winston-Salem; and two great-granddaughters, Regina LeDuke and Marga ret LeDuke of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by sisters in Tennessee and Virginia. She married James L. Chestnutt in 1950 and moved to Richmond, Va, where she was a member of the staff of the Medical College of Virginia. The family moved to Winston-Salem in 1964. James preceded her in death in 2008. Peggy had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1965 where she served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, President of Baptist Women, Director of Woman’s Mission ary Union, Chair of the Finance Committee, and on several other committees. She was also WMU Di rector for the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association. She had served as a member of the General Board of the Baptist State Convention of N.C. and its Ex ecutive Committee. She was the first woman in the Baptist State Convention elected to serve as Pres ident of The Council on Christian Higher Educa tion, which at that time consisted of the seven Bap tist Colleges and Universities in North Carolina. While rearing her three children, she was also an active volunteer on the Red Cross Bloodmobile, N.C. Baptist Hospital, Girl and Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels and Amos Cottage. She served as Presi dent of the Buena Vista Teen Study Club, the Sham rock Garden Club and was Devotional Chairman of the Winston-Salem Garden Council for a num ber of years. From 1982-84 she lived in Bern, Switzerland where she was active in the American Woman’s Club, continuing her volunteer work’ and was list ed in Who’s Who in,Europe. The family received friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. in the Ammons-Lolley Commons at First Bap tist Church. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, 501 West Fifth Street, with Rev. Emily Hull McGee, Dr. Da vid Hughes, and Rev. Lori Carter officiating. SHOOTINGS Continued from 1A John McArthur said when Vanterpool was arrested, an investigation linked him to an alleged shooting and home invasion Dec. 7 in Chowan County. He was charged two counts of attempted first de gree murder, two counts of felony conspiracy, first de gree burglary, possession of burglary tools and fleeing to elude arrest. Later after further investi gation into another reported shooting, Vanterpool was charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and dis charge of a weapon into an occupied vehicle from inci dent stemming from an al leged shooting at Lynnhaven mobile home park on Dec. 4. Two 17-year-old teenag ers, who were linked to the alleged shooting and home invasion Dec. 7, were also charged with attempted first degree murder, felony conspiracy and first degree burglary when they were arrested Dec. 7. Bottr teens are being held in Chowan County Jail one with $1,550 million bond and the other with $750,000.
