2A THE CHOWAN HERALD, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21,2018 Crimewatch EDENTON POLICE DEPARTMENT ARRESTS ■ March 14 — Jamal Demondra Armstead, 28, of Mexico Road, was arrested on one misdemeanor count of driving while license re voked. ■ March 14 — Darius Earl Holley, 32, of East Gale Street, was arrested on one misdemeanor count of fail ure to appear. ■ March 14—Daniel Lee Herrar Jr., 34, of Johnston Street, was arrested on one misdemeanor count of driv ing while license revoked. ■ March 12 — Chester Hasbrouck Carter, 56, of Coke Avenue, was issued a citation for driving while impaired. ■ March 9 — Roger Leo Flood Jr., 39, of Virginia Road, was arrested on one misdemeanor count of misuse of 911 system and one misdemeanor count of driving while license re voked. ■ March 9 — Clinton Ray Dybowski, 42, of Vir ginia Road, was arrested on one misdemeanor count of failure to appear. Obituaries Margaret Benjamin Kenealy “Peggy” RUFFIN, NC - Margaret Benjamin (Peggy) Ke nealy, 91, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 after a short stay at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth, NC. Born in Salamanca, NY on September 7, 1926 she spent most of her early years in Rochester, NY and graduated from Syracuse University where she was an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. While attending Syracuse she met John Cave (Jack) Kenealy and they married in 1951. Af ter graduating from college, Peggy and Jack lived in St. Louis, MO and New Orleans, LA before land ing in Kensington MD. They raised three sons and Peggy was proud of her work for the Prevention of Blindness Society as the Vision Screening Program Director. They had visited the Edenton, NC area and loved it so upon retirement Peggy and Jack moved to Tyner, NC in 1992 where they spent several very happy and active years enjoying retirement. Peggy and Jack enjoyed collecting antiques and pottery, gardening, history, touring in the car and spending time with their family. A particularly favorite activ ity for Peggy was her volunteer work at the historic Cupola House in Edenton, NC. After Jack passed away she moved to Ruftin, NC to be closer to family. She had a great love for her 3 sons and their families. Peggy will be sadly missed by all her family. Her survivors include 3 sons and daughters-in- law: John Kenealy, who lives and works over-seas, and his wife Sarah of Randolph, Vermont; Mike and Penny Kenealy of Glenwood Springs; Colora do and David and Annette Kenealy of Ruffin, North Carolina; 8 grandchildren (Erin, Jake, Trevor, Scot ian, Clayton, Jesse, Dusty and Casey) and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her broth er Charles Benjamin, and his wife Cathy, of Pine hurst, NC. She was preceded in death by Jack, her husband for 55 years. Peggy’s wishes were to be cremated and have her ashes buried with those of her late husband in Edenton, NC. A Memorial Service will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Edenton later this summer. Call 482-2623 PUBLIC NOTICE FROM THE TOWN OF EDENTON All lot owners/guardians of plots in Beaver Hill & Vine Oak Cemeteries are asked to remove all faded wreaths, flowers, arrangements, broken solar lights, and ornamental decorations prior to March 25, 2018. New arrangements that have been recently placed on plots will not be affected by this clean up. Beginning March 26, 2018 all items mentioned will be removed by the Town of Edenton. Thank you. Evelyn White Swanner EDENTON - Evelyn White Swanner, 87, of 1341 Paradise Road, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, in Vidant Chowan Hospital. Mrs. Swanner was born in Bertie County on Feb ruary 1, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Sol omon Perry and Rosa Etta Dunlow White. A retired supervisor with Don Juan Manufacturing, in earlier years she worked at Jimbo’s Jumbos, and with her husband, owned and operated Joe’s Drive-In. She was a member of Edenton Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kelly Swanner; a son, Randolph Kelly Swanner; sisters, Ezelle Dan iels and Grace Swanner; and by her brothers, Thur man, J.P., Clifton, Cola, and William White. Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Westbrook and husband Waverley of Edenton, and Kimber ly Jordan and husband Michael of Winterville; a son, Joseph Allen Swanner and wife Darlene of Edenton; seven grandchildren, Melissa Rivenbark (Chris), Jeffrey Swanner, Ryan Westbrook (An drea), Ashley Green (Stephen), Joseph Westbrook (Morgan), Joseph Michael Jordan (Holly), and Jus tin Jordan (Kayla); eight great-grandchildren and another due to be born in May. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Cre matory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and were conducted by her pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Burial followed in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends joined the family Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at Allen and Dar lene’s home, 200 Terry Avenue, Edenton. . The funeral was held Saturday at 2 pm, at Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church. Visitation followed the service. Mr. Winslow was born in Perquimans County on September 17, 1932, and was the son of the late Oscar Roy and So- belia Williams Winslow. As a young man he served his country in • the US Army during the Korean War. Retired from Production Credit Assn., now Ag Carolina, VW in earlier years he had worked with Morris & Hinton, Harrell Gas, Towe Motor Co., and Caroli na Telephone & Telegraph Co. Always a farmer, he was proud of his family receiving the Albemarle District Conservation Farm of the Year in 1996. A faithful member of Warwick Baptist Church, he had served as the church Moderator, Superin tendent of Sunday School, and as a Deacon. Com munity involvement included lus being a charter member of Unit 2 of the Edenton-Chowan Res cue Squad where he served for 20 years, his active involvement and work as treasurer in the Chow an 4H Jr. Livestock Show and Sale, service on the Chowan Hospital Board of Directors, serving as Chairman of the College of The Albemarle Board of Trustees, serving on the Chowan County FSA Committee, the Chowan Life Center Advisory Board, and the Chowan County Board of Commis sioners. Mr. Winslow was active and believed in all things Ruritan. From his membership and work in the Ry land Ruritan Club, he continued that area of ser vice by being a Ruritan National Governor in 1991, serving as a Director of Ruritan National, and in 2011 received the Albemarle District Ruritan Out standing Service Award. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Rea Chappell Winslow; his step-mother, Clara Winslow; a brother-in-law, Ex- cell Markham, and a sister-in-law and brother-in- law, Dorie Mae and Wallace Chappell. Surviving are two sons, Joseph Lee “Joey” Winslow and wife, Florence, and Alvin Winslow and wife, Deane, and a daughter, Harriet Anna Winslow and husband, Jarvis “Dickie”, all of Bel videre. Also surviving are two sisters, Esther Markham of Goldsboro, and Janie Proctor and husband, Willis of Edenton; two brothers, Elihu “Bill” Winslow and wife, Dot of Chesapeake, VA, and Waldo Winslow and wife, Nancy of Edenton; six grandchildren, Jennifer Thach (Lee), Nichole Layden (Brandon), Allison Eure (Towe), Jamie Winslow, Wallace Winslow (Maddy), and Lindsay Winslow; six great-grandchildren, Savanna Layden, Ava Thach, Sydney Eure, Rylee Layden, ly Thach, and Fenlee Eure; his special friend, Mary Lou Own- ley; his devoted care-giver, Tara Clark; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Warwick Baptist Church and were conducted by his pastor, The Rev. H. Kip Vinson. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Friends joined the family in the church immediately following the service, and all other times at his residence.
