THURSDAY y APRIL 11 ■ Beekeepers of Chowan County The Beekeepers of Chowan County will meet from 7-9 p.m. at the Chowan County Agricultural Center, 'NC Cooperative Exten sion, Conference Room 1005. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Etienne Nadeau, owner of Nadeau Farms in Elizabeth City, will discuss the advantages and disadvantages or making splits and talk about the different methods of making splits. Use parking lot and entrance on the Virginia Road/Highway 32 side of the building. Water and drinks provided. Bring a favorite snack to share and an item for our raffle table. ■ Aces softball, football fundraiser Edenton Aces softball and foot ball fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. at the Boy Scout Hut in from of John A. Holmes High School. The meal, catered by Heritage House BBQ, included pork ribs, friend chicken, string beans, potatoes and roll. The $10 meal includes a raffle. They will draw four tickets after 7 p.m. for these prizes: first ticket, $100 cash; second ticket, $75 cash; third ticket, $50; and fourth ticket, $25. They will de liver orders for 10 or more. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17 ■ Free eye, hearing screenings The Rocky Hock Lions Club will sponsor the Brighter Visions Mobile Screening Unit from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Roses’ Shopping Center in Edenton. There will be free screenings for eyes and hear ing. The Vidant Chowan Hospital Wellness Van will be there to test for diabetes and glaucoma. No appointment necessary. Perquimans’ sophomore Whidbee won/tied the 100- meter dash (13 seconds) — BUT — Aces’ freshman Zac- chaeu Grissom also crossed the tape with the same time (13 seconds), followed by her freshman teammate Pre cious Bond (13.3 seconds) — this dynamic duo is going to be a sprint super power if they keep running and gun ning. As to the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, Aces’ Leigh took home first (17.2 seconds) with teammate Stanley in second (19.6 seconds) and Perquimans’ Tanaysha Wat son in third (20.7 seconds). Perquimans’ Ceo Riddick was the sole runner for the boys’ 100-meter hurdles (18.8 seconds). Per the discus, Aces’ senior Jackson Ray tossed the flying disk, which traces its origins to ancient Greece, 92 feet to land first place, with fresh man teammate Isaiah Walker firing off a 90-foot throw, fol lowed by Perquimans Stuart Fairchild at third place with a 87.8-foot throw. Per the girls’ side of the ledger, Holmes’ ladies took 1-2-3: Kyviona Alexander — 67-02 feet; Stanley — 64 feet; Mykayla White — 59-05 feet. As to the boys’ 800-meter run: Jackson Ray—2:23 min utes; Perquimaqns’ Haden Cox — 2:41 minutes; Aces’ Emarion Rountree — 2:47 minutes. Per the boys’ shot put: Aces’ Isaiah Walker — 33-06 feet; Aces’ Mason Bateman — 31-08 feet; Perquimans’ Stuart Fairchild — 29-09 feet . Aces’ girls swept the shot put: Stanley — 32-01 feet; Kaei Drew — 27-04 feet; Zyn- ia Capehart—27-02 feet. As to the 300-meter hur dles, check this out: Aces’ Aaron Pryce—43.1 seconds; Perquimans’ Ceo Riddick — 48.3 seconds; Aces’ Antuan Sharpe — 52.4 seconds. Per the 1,600-meter run, distance man Ray topped the high school field (5:36 minutes), however, Jack son Stegall, a seventh-grad er from Chowan Middle School, won the race. Stegall kept with the high school top runners the whole way and finished strong. As to sec ond and third, these two up and comer’s gave it their all: 2 Aces’ Luis Carvajal — 5:36 minutes; Perquimans’ Haden Cox — 5:58 minutes. On the girls’ side, Aces’ Itary Lopez won the race by crossing the tape at 6:30 min utes, however, CMS Bulldogs’ Carson Ray and Samantha Layton finished strong too. Per the boys’ triple jump, these two Aces jumped quite far Omar Thompson — 33- 09 feet; Amarion Bunch — 33-04 feet. Per the 4xl00-meter re lay, Aces took top spot — 44 seconds — followed by Per quimans County at 47.4 sec onds. As to the girls’ side of the ledger, Aces crossed the tape first at 53.5 seconds followed by Perquimans County at 54.7 seconds. With regard to the 400- meter dash, Aces’ Luis Car- vqjal captured gold with 54.9 seconds; Perquimans’ Joseph Askew was second —55.1 seconds; Perquimans’ Quindall Freeman was third — 56.5 seconds. Aces swept the girls’ side of the ledger for the 400-me- ter dash with Zamerah Hall winning at 1:16 minutes and Sa’rah Jones taking home sil ver at 1:18 minutes. Boys’ 200-meter dash breaks down like this with Aces’ Brooks taking home gold (23.4 seconds); Perqui mans’ Reid at second (23.8 seconds); Aces’ Kyli’H Co field at third (25.6 seconds). Per the girls’ side of the ledger for the 200-meter dash, the top three breaks down like this with Perqui mans’ Whidbee winning the race (28.6 seconds); Aces’ Zacchaeu Grissom (28.8 sec onds); Aces’ Kayla Williams (30 seconds). As to the long jump, some familiar names made their mark in the pit with Aces’ Hill capturing the top spot (18-09 feet); Aces’ Josiah Carter at second (17-03 feet) and Perquimans’ Ceo Rid dick with a third place finish (16-05 feet). As to the girls’ side of the ledger for the long jump, Aces’ Leigh won (13-04 feet); Perquimans’ Ma’Shanti White was second (13-03 feet); Aces’ Kaei Drew captured third (12-09 feet).
