Obituaries THE CHOWAN HERALD, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10,2019 3A C.T. Dixon, Jr. EDENTON - Charles Thomas “C.T.” Dixon, Jr., 85, of 2016 Rocky Hock Road, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019, in his home. Mr. Dixon was bom in Holland, Virgin ia on March 3, 1934, and was the son of the late Charles “Charlie” Thomas, Sr. and Lil lie Hare Dixon. The re tired owner of the for mer C.T. Dixon Logging Corp., he also had oth er business ventures through the years, in cluding Mack Truck, Chrysler Automobiles, International Tractor, and Stihl dealerships. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Malcolm Dixon. Surviving are his wife of over 66 years, Jack ie Hall Dixon; two daughters, Marsha Gregory (Thomas), and Teresa Bateman (Ray); and a son, Randy Dixon, all of Edenton; a sister, Clara Peele of Edenton; a brother, Richard Dixon (Diane) of Jacksonville, FL; three granddaughters, Jennifer Spivey, (Kelly), Kimberly Brower (J.B.), and Jade Lassiter; and seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Graham, and Layton Spivey, Lilly, Sadie, and Har ris Brower, and Jaxson Winslow. Also surviving are special friends, Mark and Debbie Moreland.. Funeral services were held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and were conducted by the Revs. Bob Young, Bernie Hurdle, and Chris Gravning. Burial followed in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends joined the family Sunday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the res idence. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who gave of himself to his family and friends while expecting nothing in return. The joy and laughter that he brought to fam ily and friends on this earth will live on with them. He never let his disabilities define him and did the best he could with his many talents. He was born January 17,1958 to George Grover and Ruth Deese Nance. Mr. Nance was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jacob Eli Nance. He is survived by his sisters Janet Allen (Rich ard) of Burlington, Sherry Jordan (Don) of Eden ton, and brother Joel Nance (Susan) of Raleigh, along with four nephews, two nieces, and two great-nephews. Marshall loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to attend family reunions and visit with family members he had not seen in some time. He lived in Ralph Scott Life Services group homes for over forty years, making friends easily with his fellow residents there, as well as the care givers. Even in his short time at Peak Resourc es, he attracted the love and friendship of the care- givers and his fellow residents, who treated him with kindness and compassion. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends who will remem ber him by his beloved “Marshallisms”. Growing up in the First Baptist Church in Mebane, Marshall enjoyed the music and loved “directing” the choir from his pew. He also enjoyed playing duets with his sisters and wore out piano seats over the years. Marshall loved to dance; he brought joy and laugh ter to his family and friends whenever he heard a favorite song and began his signature dance. A funeral sendee was held at 2:00 PM on Sun day March 10, 2019 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Pastor Dennis Hill offi ciating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Lane was born in Chowan County on De cember 14, 1934, and was the son of the late Luther James and Leora Goodwin Lane: Retired from Hercules Fence Company, for the last several years he had worked part-tune at the Soundside Recycling Center, and had spent many hours in his gar den. He had served in tire US Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 58 years, Dorothy Wright Lane; sisters, Beulah Boyce Turner, Thelma Koenig, Josie Ashley, and Bessie Newby; and by his brothers, Thurman and Melvin Lane. Surviving are four daughters, Debbie Harris of Hertford, Wanda Burlamachi of Chesapeake, VA, Sheila Shelton and husband, Jimmy, of Belvidere, and Barbara Smith and husband, Keith, of Nash ville; a son, Joseph Lane and wife, Edna, of Char lotte; a brother, Jimmy Lane of Belvidere; 10 grand children and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service with Military Honors was held Friday, April Sth, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crenlatory, 735 Virginia Road, and was conducted by the Rev. Doug Mur ray. A private burial followed in Beaver Hill Ceme tery. Friends joined the family Thursday, April 4th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
