As for Friday night’s contest against the No. 3 seed Aces (18- 8), Edenton was beat up by the lineup of the Eagles as Rose wood sent 20 batters to the plate in the first inning. One of the biggest hits was by leadoff batter Logan Price. The junior sent a Ryan White offering to centerfield that cleared the outfield fence for a home run to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. FOURTH and Long NBA playoff games are revealing I said last week that you should be watching the NBA playoffs and while the Con ference Finals haven’t exactly been riveting, they have been entertaining and revealing. In the Bucks- Raptors series we are watching the two of the NBA’s three most dominant players face off. Milwaukee’s Giannis An- DAVID FRIEDMAN tetokounmpo and Toronto’s Kawhi Leonard have been un stoppable in the Eastern Confer ence playoffs. They each “get theirs” but for the most part, then’ numbers or stats cancel each other out. Thus far, the wins have gone to whichever supporting cast has had the best game. Meanwhile in the Western Conference, the reigning cham pions aren’t going anywhere de spite losing Kevin Durant to a calf injury. Not having the NBA’s third contender for most domi nant player has reminded every one, myself included, just how good Steph Curry and Dray- mond Green are and how fun that team can be to watch. I watched Toronto win game three last night, but the Bucks and Warriors seem poised to ad vance to the NBA Finals. I for one am curious what will hap pen when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. As good as the action is on the court, has anyone else noticed how much excitement and atten tion the NBA offseason gets? It’s as if the possibilities that draft prospects and free agency pro vide is more exciting that the re ality that comes with a regular season that is too long. Speaking of off season excite ment, it was about this time last year when I was urging everyone to start getting excited about the Carolina-Duke basketball matchup that was still months away. Consider this your annual reminder. Had you asked a month ago, I wouldn’t have been so excited Meet the Steamers at team’s first Fan Fest Steamers Roundup STAFF, SUBMITTED REPORTS The Edenton Steamers will host their very first Fan Fest on May 29. Meet the 2019 Steamers during the free event, which starts at 6 p.m. at Historic Hicks Field. The Steamers will open their beer garden, which also will be open during home games. They also have a new sausage vendor — Booze Dogs, out of Greenville. They sell alcohol-in- fused sausages. Russell said the alcohol evaporates out during the cooking process. “There are quality dogs that are made right here in the region,” he said. Three flavors of sausages will be available during the games. The Steamers’ season starts May 30 at home against the Morehead City Marlins. Rooster additions The Steamers have added their final roster ad ditions for the 2019 season as they have signed three Michigan Wolverine pitch ers.
