CARDUI F?r Font* TraaMe* IMIIMpii 7 A40W A - 1 / GIRLS? j Vestern North Carolina Orchard Study Tour On Wednesday of last week a iuu|>e 01 lruic growers ot Ulay Coun. r toured north Georgia studying the roduetion of fruit, the tour was lade through Neols Gap, down to leveland and Cornelia, there the real ;udy began. The first orchard visited was Mr. eeder's, he is a peach grower peraps one of tile best authorities on each production and marketing. We >und there a gentleman, highly oduited and very courteous and gave s some of the very best information lut could be had. First he discussed ith us the present condition of the each grower, for the Inst four years le dry season had made it possible >r any one to grow peaches, whether icy gave them the modern culture Ifjbod or not. This condition has reduced a large qunnity of inferior caches, being very detrimental to the each industry. Next Mr. Vecder, inducted a tour into his orchard and cplaincd its fertilizer demonstrations hich showed the following; unfertized trees weak and dying, nitrogen jrtilized trees very green and excelnt growth, nitrogen and acid as ime as nitrogen alone, nit rogen and otash good growth and fine producon with loaves shedding properly, itrogen, phosphate and potashe are ime as nitrogen and potashe, in othr words nitrogen and potashe is the esired fertilizer. Wo visited next the Baldwin packlg house and then to Mr. Black's rchnrd. At Mr. Black's orchard wc ound seven thousand trees the fruit as not so fine, it was small, off colred. Next we visited Mr. State's rchard a smaller orchard. This is le best kept orchard we visited in forth Georpia, the fruit was larper nd better color. The nipht was spent in Clarkesville. hursday morninp we toured throuph allulah Falls section observinp or lards and from there across to Hiaassee where we pot in a real apple juntry, we ate dinner in Hiawassee Ndw Drive Only those who h: Brothers Special S< Brothers cor BUIL/1 fully appreciate all t have accomplished months. MOC 101 Tennessee St. ODBE- E MOTOR rAGE FIVE The Kidder I ^ WM ?3 |||g| oseoCna. ann after dinner visited Mr. Cicero Brown's. Every member of the party confirmed these statements, first that Mr. Brown had the best cortrol of his orchard, he could spray his fruit, he could house his fruit and market his fruit better than any one we had visited. Mr. Brown had a smaller orchard and he is best equipped than any person we visited and he ha ?a better locality to work in. To prove that he has a better locality his fruit is larger, better colored and has a better flavor than those south of the Blue Ridge. When you say an apple is larger, better colored and better flav. red you have said about all there is to say about an apple. The points the orchard men learned wore these, you must not get your orchard out of hounds in size ,a small well kept orchard pays more. That better fruit can be grown in the Hiawa?ste Valley than can possibly be grown south of the Blue Ridge. That ihe r.tw system of pruning called "modifyed loader" is the only way to prune orchards to stand the stress and strain of high production. Subscribe to The Scout. $1.50 per year.
