Was One of the Outstanding
Citizens of
Cherokee County
Mr. J. W. King, local merchant and
busines-man, passed away at 10:00
o'clock, Cristmas night , after an illness
of les* that two weeks. Death
was the reult of heart attacks. He
-would have been seventy-four in
February.
Funeral services were held at
Bellview Friday December 27. with
the Revs. H. W. Baucom C. F. Martin,
and L. Conley officiating. Interment
was in Bellview cemetery,
with Pejtton G. Ivie in charge of
funeral arrangements.
Mr. King had 'been a beloved and
respected citizen of this section for
many year?. On the death of his
wife some ten years ago. he moved to
Murphy, where he had made his home
ever since. Besides his own mercantile
business, he was interested in
Wofford-Terrell holesale Company.
As a boy, he attended Hayesville
Academy, where he was a classmate
and close personal friend of a boy
who was destined to become a re.
nowned preacher, George W. Truett.
The death of Mr. King is mourned
by many friends, who remember
him as a kindly, christian gentleman.

BUILDING AND LOAN
ASSOCIATION DRIVE
FOR FUNDS MAPPED
Plans for the establishment here f

financially by the Federal government,
are going steadily ahead under

chairman of the group announced

Mr. Fain says the outlook for the
initial local outlay of $2500 is very
good and he expects to launch the
campaign to raise the money in sev.
