Mrs. R. B. Wooten was honored by j
Mrs. It. W Petrie on last Thursday
with a surprise miscellaneous shower.
Mr. and Mrs. Wooten were invited
for a q-ame of cards with L)r. and
Mrs. Petrie for eight o'clock. An hour
later a group of friends walked in on
the party bringing gifts for the recent
bride. After the shower the hostess
served a sweet course with nuts.
Each plate had an attractive wedding

Mra Bueck, president of the Murphy
Woman's club, will appear on a
program at the Waynesville court
house Tuesday at one of a series of
state-wide meetings in he interest
of establishing more libraries in
North Carolina.

National Book Week and last week
was Children's Book Week.
Mrs. Bernard Cook has returned
to the Regal after undergoing an
operation at Petrie Hospital recently.

Members of the school board and
their wives and members of the local
faculty were the inspiration for the
first party of the Thanksgiving season
at fhe club room on Saturday
evening, with Mrs. Davidson and Mrs.
Bueck entertaining
Chrysanthemums and soft lights
formed a background for the supper
bridge game. Tallies bore a symbol
of the Pilgrims and the Central table
was significant of the Harvest time.
Guests were invited for seven o'clock
and upon their arrival were
served cider and cheese wafers. A
two course supper followed.
Playing high for the evening was
Mrs. T. A Case for the ladies and
Mr. O. W Deaton for the rnen. Mr.
Franklin Smith cut the joker and
was awarded the cut prize.

"Thanksgiving In Music" was the
topic of the program given by Mrs.
O. E. Madden at the regular meeting
of the Woman's club on Wednesday
afternoon As an introduction to
Mrs. Madden's paper Mrs. W. A. Barber
gave a salutation by Flynn "Harvest".
During the rendition of the
program the entire group sang America.
Miss Martha Nell Wells gave as
a solo "Thanksgiving" and an ensemble
of voices sang Gounod's "Praise
Ye The Father"
Several matters of business were
taken up during the business session.
Members were urged to join the
Red Cross ar.d buy Christmas seals.
Emphasis on donating to the Library
during the week was stressed
Hostesses in charge of the social
