Thursday, June 23, 1938 Kelley Bennett Will Not Call 2nd Primary Dr. Kelley E. Bennett, of Bryson City, second high man in the race for j the Democratic nomination for the | state senate in the 33rd district, has decided against calling a second pri-H maty. It. B- Morphew. of Bobbins-; villi . was high man. Dr. Bennett, in a letter to Raymond C Maxwell, executive secretary of! the state board of elections, Raleigh, j .said: 1 "This will acknowledge receipt of your letter of .June 15. in which you adivse that by virtue of receiving the: second highest number of votes cast in the recent primary for the office j of state senator in the 33rd senatorial district, I am entitled to request [< a second primary in the district, if1 , same be made within five days from ; | June J4. j [ "While I appreciate the value of the office and realize it is wort* any j \ sacrifice I might be called on to|t make personally, after giving the j matter considerable thought, I have ( decided that, inasmuch as the dis- | trict covers, five counties, the expense ^ of a second primary would ba too t heavy to justify another primary, and, since this expense would have to be p borne by the people of my district, I believe mv decision not to call a second primary will be in accord with t their judgment aiv> wishes. ji "This is. therefore, to authorize t you. insofar as my candidacy for the office of state senator from the 33rd > district is concerned to certify Hon. ( It. I). Morphew the duly elected candidatc." 1 Cover Attends District 1 Oil Meeting Last Week , Mv. G. \V. Cover.
