ent J. E. Hall, of the Prison CSunp
at Peach tree The Scout takes this
opportunity to state that no criticism
of Mr. Hall, or his aides was intend
ed in the article he refers to. It
was printed merely as a matter of
news, brought to the Scout by two
former prisoners ^ho claimed to have
been parties to the alleged strike.
Mr. HmJl's jrtatement follows, in
full:
"In reply to the article that ap
peared in this paper last week in
regard u> the prisoners located at
the Therokee County Prison camp,
the rump was uadly misrepresented in
regard to clothing, food and medi
cal attention.
"We have had two guards. John
i Pullium and Claud Jones who have
been employed by the North Caro
lina Prison Department and stiution
ed here at this camp for the last
nine years. These guards say these
prisoners of this camp have had the
best care in food, clothing and medi
cal attention that could be given
them under the laws of this State.

George McClure Killed
By Xmas Day Crash
A Christmas day ride resulted fat- i
ally for George McClure. of the
Shooting Creek section when the car
he was driving was wrecked on the ;
Hayesville load, near Brasstown. He
died the day after Christmas in a
Murphy hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday i
at the Church of God chapel on
Shooting Creek, and interment was
in the church-yard cemetery. Ivie
Funeral Home was in charge of ar
rangements.
Mr. McClure was driving with Mr.
and Mrs. Sam Kirkland when his
car skidded off the road and turned
over. Mr. and Mrs. Kirkland escap
ed with minor hurts.
The deceased is survived by a wid
ow and several children.

program, under which the U. S. is
taking over all State unemployment
