Rev E F Baker, father of the bride and pastor of the church offi ciated Seven-branched candelabra with lighted tapers and two large floor baskets of white ?lad loli. stocks carnations and gypsophilia were placed on either side of the altar. A large white arch entwined with ivy bearing tall lighted tapers was plac ed against a background of moun tain fern, hemlock and ivy. Pews were marked with bouquets of Queen Ann's '.ace tied with tulle. Large urns of pastel Queen Anne's lace were placed in both vestibules of the church. A program of nuptial music was presented by Harry Morrell church organist, and Mrs. Earle Messe r of Waynesvilyle. cousin of the bride, soloist. Prior to the ceremony the organist played Shubert's Serenade and "Indian Love Call", by Rudolf Friml. "To a Wild Rose" by Mc Dowell was played softly during the ceremony. Mrs. Messrs's numbers included "I Love You Truly" by Carrie Jacobs Bond and "Sweetest Story ever Told" by Stults". The bridal chorus from Lohengrin" by Wagner was used as the processional and Mendelssohn's wedding march was played as the recessional. Brother Gives Away Sister The bride, who was given in mar- 1 liage by her brother William Baker of Greenville, S. C.. wore a gown of silk marquisette over taffeta, sweet heart neckline, long torso, bodice of Chantilly lace. The sleeves were long, tapering over the hands, form ing a point She wore a full length veil of illusion, edged with Chantilly lace attached to a coronet of seed pearls. She oarried a white Ivory prayer book centered with a white orchid with shower cascade of gyp sophilia. * ? Tlie bridesmaids were Miss Doris Raley. of Ruby. S. C . Miss Marie Sprinkle, of Marshall. Miss Alene McMullin of Coopers. W Vi . and Miss Evelyn Wood, or Andrews. All wore gowns of pastel yellow marquisette made with long torso, full skirts, short puffed sleeves and ca tried nosegays of old fashioned flowers. Miss Moon Wright, young daugh tr of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Wright of Kernersvllle. was flower girl. She wore a dainty frock of baby blue marquisette, floor length made identical to gowns of the brides maids. She carrie da basket of pink and white rose petals. Mrs. Baker mother of the bride wore a gown of shell pink marquisette with fitted bodice and long full sleeves. Her corsage was of pink roses and blue delphinium. Mrs. Smith wore a gown of blue taffeta. Her corsage of talisman roses. Leave For Trip Following the reception the couple left by motor tor an unannounced wedding trip. For travelling the bride wore an aqua two-piece cos tume suit of shantung with all white accessories . Her corsage was orchid detached from the bridal bouquet. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Kerners ville high school. Mars Hill Junior college and received her B. S. degree from Queens college on June 2. Mr. Smith is a graduate of Foun tain high school and received his B. S. S. A. degree from the University of North Carolina. Chapel Hill. He has a position with the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, district office Charlotte. They will reside at 1222 East Boulevard. Charlotte. A three tiered weddin? cake was topped with ininatun lovebirds. In the receiving line were the bridal couple, their parents and members of the wedding party. Mrs J. A. Morgan and Mrs. H. Social Affairs Are Given Honoring Prospective Bride A number of parties were given (or Miss Uriel Vivian Baker of Andrews and Mack Edward Smith Jr.. whose marriage took place Sat urday evening. A buffet supper Friday evening at the home of the bride's parents, the Rev. and Mrs. E. F. Baker, was giv en for members of the wedding party and out of town guests. The affair took place on the terrace and pre ceded the wedding rehearsal. Mrs. R. H. Montony and daugh ters. Mrs. Morris Bush and Miss Winifred Montony entertained Sat urday at a luncheon for the bride's attendants. Mrs. E. F. Baker mother tain, Mrs. A. G. Wright and Mrs. G. of the bride. Mrs. Smith of Foun P Houser both of Kemersville. The affair was held at the home of Mrs. Montony. Mr. Baker, father of the bride was host to a stag luncheon, for the bride-groom, the groomsmen. Mack Edward Smith father of the bride groom. The luncheon was held on the lawn. Mrs. Lauriston Ezzell and Mrs. Arthur Watkins entertained with a bridge party honoring the bride on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Lee Watkins. Andrews Valedictorian Receives Scholarship At U. Of Virginia Jack Davis, president of the senior class, valedictorian and "outstand ing student" of this spring's grad uating class In the Andrews high school has Just been awarded the Du Pont scholarship in the Uni versity of Virginia at Charlottes ville. The scholarship has a value of $250 annually and Is renewable pro vided the m a tn tains a high scholastic rank. The Du Pont scholarship is awarded only In cases where the applicant can show the highest merit. Mr. Davis will enter the Univer sity beginning with the fall semes ter. He la the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Davis. Mrs. Lauriston Eteell, who has been spending several weeks here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Watkins. left Wednesday for Florida to Join her husband who Is In U. S. service.
