the shipyards in Washington.

their son. Merle Davis, who is in the
Army in Hawaii. He has been pro
moted to Master Sergeant, the high
est rank an enlisted man can hold.

Rock. Ark., arrived Tuesday for a
brief visit with her parents, Rev.
and Mrs. H. L. Paisley.
M. E. Johnson, who has been away
from this section since 1938, is
spending a short time with his chil
dren and with J. P. Coleman near
Hayesville. before returning to Front
Royal. Va., where he is a lead burn
er.

has been appointed to a special
three months' course of Instruction

Commenting on the appointment
01 Sgt. St&lcup. Maj. Gen. Grunert
said: "Sgt. Stalcup and his fellow
students will have highly Important
tasks awaiting them when their
schooling is at an end. They are the
men who must give reality to the
slogan keep' 'em rolling.' and that
means both combat vehicles and the
supply trucks of the Quartermaster.
"So that these men may be
thoroughly prepared to meet the
problems of mobile warfare, the of
ficers and civilian automotive ex
perts of the Quartermaster Corps
who compose the school faculty, are
emphasizing practical h#?nrh work
with the tools of the mechanics
tiade. Before they can win diplomas
as first-class soldier - mechanics,
they must prove their ability by do
ing actual repair and maintenance
work on vehicles that are in dally
operation throughout the Sixth
Corps Area."
Successful completion of the
course will mean that Sgt. Stalcup
is eligible for promotion and ap
pointment to a post as supervising
mechanic or motor transport ad
ministrative assistant.
