Red Cross To Start Nutrition Classes Food has always been a vital sub ject to Americans, but in a war year, it becomes vitally important. We have discovered that In spite of all our rich farm land with their teem ing crops, the increased output of dairy products and our wholesome and plentiful vegetables and fruits ? that we, Americans are not well ? nourished. Proper nourishment depends upon the proper selection of food, not upon the amount that we can put away at a meal. It is not alone, those whose income is the lowest, who arc undernourished. Many who are able to purchase plenty of every thing are the victims of malnutrition and malnutrition means retarded growth, unsteady nerves, tired bodies and lack of initiative. In wartime it is the duty of every American to keep physically fit and proper diet is a great factor in promoting good health. 4 The second factor that makes a knowledge ot food values important is the rising cost of food. How to feed a family when many of meats fruits and vegetables, we are used to buying freely are almost out of reach of the average budget is a distressing | problem. Hie Red Cross, true to their motto "To serve" has undertaken the task of imparting knowledge of new dis coveries in science. In food combina tions and how to raise our food standards and therefore, the nations health. Our local Red Cross will start next week a group of three classes that are open to both men and women. Men are urged to attend especially those that cat in restaurants that they may learn to select wisely the foods that they most need. The course consists of i!0 hours of in structions by women who have been trained in tin- field of nutrition. The course will b very practical and not technical at all. The only charge will be twenty-five cents for the rent ol a textbook which will be returned when the textbook is returned. Those who complete the course will be given a Red Cross nutrition cer tificate and will be eligible to join the Canteen course which will be taught by Mrs Aline King and Miss Mary Cornwell. The canteen course is to prepare volunteers to take rare of evacuees, or refugees in case of emergency The clases will meet in the Ladies parlor of the Methodist Church at the following hours. Monday, Friday Nights ? 7 :30 - 9:30 Miss Ruth Davis Emory. Tn sti-uc'or Monday. Friday Afternoons 2:30 - 4:30 -Mrs. Carl Whiteside. Instructor. Wednesday, Thursday Mornings ? 9:00 - 11:00 ? Mrs. H.
