ANDREWS News and Advertisements Pauline Hicks, Editor Rhuel Parker Is Home After 3 Years Service ANDREWS ? Sgt. Rhuel Park er. arrived home last week after three years of service, thirty-five months of which were spent over seas . He was in the invasion of North Africa, and had been sta tioned with the 300th General Hos pital in Italy before returning to the States. His wife, the former Miss Frances Dockery, who is train ing in the Cadet Nurses Corps, Chattanooga, Tenn., is here with him. His brother. Pvt. John Park er, Ft. Bragg, spent a few days here last week. Funeral Is Held For Miss Christy ? ANDREWS ? Funeral services lor Miss Sallie Aurelia Christy, r.ge 90. of Andrews were held at 2:00 o'clock on Monday of last week at the Andrews Methodist church with the Rev. C. C. Wash am officiating. Interment follow ed in the Andrews cemetery. Miss Christy was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Christy and was born near Athens, Ga. She joined the Methodist church at an early age. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. S. E. Bryson, of Andrews, with whom she had lived for the past 16 years, and by numerous nephews and nieces. Elva Naomi Goode Is Bride Of Wendell Wilhide ANDREWS ? Miss Elva Naomi Goode became the bride of Wend ell D. Wilhide on Sunday after noon. December 23. at 5:30 o'clock in a quiet ceremony at the Clover Presbyteriran church, Clover, S. C . with the Rev. W. H. Bowman officiating. Only members of the immediate families were present. Mrs. Wilhide is the daughter of Mrs. Emma Goode of Clover. She ij a graduate of Clover high school and Les McRae junior college. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Wilhide of An drerws. He is a graduate of An drews high school and the University of North Carolina. He ! is now employed as a chemist in j the chemical engineering division of TVA at Wilson Dam, Ala. After 1hc ceremony the couple return- j c-d to Wilson Dam, Ala., where' they will reside. Shower Is Given Mrs. Joe Higdon ANDREW'S ? Mrs. Florence Huffman and Mrs. Monet Lindsey honored Mrs. Joe Higdon with a surprise miscellaneous shower at her home on Tuesday evening of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Higdon had just moved into their apart ment. Those attending were: Mrs. Peggy Lail. Mrs. Lenna Ford. Mrs. Charles Wood. Mrs. Nancy Love Mrs. Charles Wilson. Mrs. Charles Mull. McClellan, Ala. Cpl. Clauton Anderson returned to Harvard, Nebraska, last week after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Anderson. Sgt. Lawson West arrived home from Europe in time for Christmas dinner. He has received a dis charge. A. V. West, F 1/c, has returned to the USS Steinaker in New York after a visit with his family hei*e. Daniel Glenn and Ernest Phillips left last week to enroll at West ern Carolina Teachers College. Cpl. Paul Rickett. USMC. has re turned from the Pacific and been discharged. M. J. Jordan, SC 3/e, returned recently from the Pacific and has been discharged. Arnold Derreberry was recent ly discharged and is now back at his old job in charge of the meats in Msr. Caldwell's market. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stribling spent the Christmas holidays in Highlands with their daughter. Mrs. Harry Holt. They returned the day after Christmas and were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Holt for a visit of two days. Miss Jackye El lard also spent Christmas in Highlands. Boyd B. Robinson spent several of the holidays with his mother. Mrs. Mary Robinson, of Maiden. Miss Catherin Wilhide returned to Mars Hill College Thursday of last week. Morrow, son of the Rev. and Mrs. G E. Morrow, of Murphy on Sun day, December 30, at a ceremony taking place at the Methodist par j sonage at Young Harris, Georgia. The Rev. Mr. Whitehead, director of religious education at Young ; Harris College, performed the cere ! mony. The bride wore a two-piece suit of soldier blue gabardine with j light brown accessories. At present she is a teacher in the Robbinsville City Schools. Mr. Morrow recent ly returned from overseas where he served with the Seventh Armor ed Division in Holland. France, and Germany.
