SOCIETY Party Given In Honor Birthday Mrs. E. A. Browning celebrated l t.r son. Billy's sixth birthday an niversary with a party at her home Saturday afternoon. She was as sisted in entertaining by Mrs. Ed Barnett. The home was decorated with (all tlowers, and the dining table, covered with a lace cloth, was cen tered with a pink and white birth day cake bearing six candles. Cak< ice cream and punch were served, with mints and balloons for favors on the plates. Moving pic tures of the party were made. Those invited were: Bucky and Frar.k Hill, Lonnie Hoover, Ben Vaucht. Frances Moore and Annie Laura Mulkey were hostesses at a surprise birthday party for Miss Lucille Barton Friday evening at the home of Mrs. L. H. Mulko.v . A color scheme of pink and green was used in the decorations A large birthday cake flanked by burning white tapers and sur rounded by gifts centered the table. Meeting The general meeting of the Bap tist Women's Missionary society was held Tuesday afternoon at the church with the Fannie E. S. Heck circle in charge. Mrs. J. M. Am nions was leader of the program. The meeting was opened with the hymn for the year, with the watchword repeated in unison by the group and devotional by Mrs. Lloyd Hendrix. "World Investment of Southern Baptists" was the topic. Mrs. J. M. Ammons discussed "Invest ments", and "Seven in One", and Mrs. W. A. Phipps' topic war "Whence the Money?" "Honest ui Dishonest" was given by Mrs. C. W Arnold. A discussion on "The Test of the Tithe" was led by Mrs. Hendrix. Others participating in the discuss ion were Mrs. C. E. Woody, Mrs. Laura Green, Mrs. J. Alton Mor ris, Mrs. E. J. Darnell. Mrs. W. If Murray, and Mrs. Henry Hyatt. The meeting was closed with the hymn. "I Gave My Life For Thee' , and prayer by Mrs. Morris. Mrs. Davidson Is Hostess To B.W.C. The Business Women's Circle of the Baptist W. M. S. were enter tained in the home of Mrs. J. W. Davidson Monday evening, with Mrs. R. D. Chandler as program leader. The ladies studied "World Investments of Southern Baptists", with the following taking part: Mrs. J. J. Hamilton, Mrs. J. C. Ammons, Mrs. A. L. Buchanan, Mrs. R. S. Bault, Miss Addie Ma;? Cooke, and Mrs. Chandler. Mrs. Davidson served cake, ice cream and coffee, at the conclus ion of the program. "Arms Reaching Out" is Topic YWA Mrs. Helen Ammons was in charge of the program, "Army Reaching Out", at the meeting oi the Y. W. A. of the First Baptist church at the home of Miss Grace Ramsey Monday night at 7:30 o'clock. The scripture reading was taken from Matthew 9:36-38; Luke 6:17-19; and John 17:18. Those taking part on the program were Misses Anna Laura Mulkey, Janice | Hall and Lucy Winston. Miss Carolyn Smith of Andrews, daughter of | Mi', and Mrs. Joe Smith, who reeently was chosen district winner in the 4-H club clothing achievement Western district contest held in Ashe* ville. She will represent the district and her home county of Cherokee in the state contest to be held in Raleigh soon. The outfit made by this 4-H club girl and worn in the Asheville contest, has been selected as one of them to be on exhibit at the State fair in Raleigh next week. Mrs. Savage Gives Mrs. Ivie Shower Mrs. J. L. Savage entertained at a shower honoring Mrs. Peyton G. Ivie on Friday evening. Twelve close friends were present, and they presented Mrs. Ivie with several pretty personal gifts. Re freshments were served by the hostess. Scouts Entertain For Ann Taylor The Murphy Girl scouts gave a surprise party recently in the base ment of the Baptist church, ici Ann Taylor, who is leaving Mur phy. Dyer hive just announced the marriage of their daughter, Jeanetta, to mcs David Burch son of Mr. an Mrs. C A. Burch of Hayesville. The ceremony took place August 3 at 8 o'clock p. m. at First Meth odist church, Clayton. Ga. Rev. H. W. Wheelis, pastor of the church, officiated using the double ring ceremony. The bride is a graduate of Mur phy high school and attended Ten nessee Wesleyan college at Athens, Tenn. Personals Tom Evans and Edward Town send spent Thursday and Friday in Chattanooga, Tenn., on business. Mrs. G. L. Thomas and son Jerry, are spending a few days with relatives in Statesville. Mrs. Tom Evans spent the week end with her daughter. Mrs. Harry Ferguson, and Mr. Ferguson in Sylva. Karl Weiss. Jr., left by plane last week for a two weeks' trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, on business. He wil also visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Weiss, while away. Miss Mary Ellen Payne speni the week-end with her parents. Mr and Mrs. John Payne, at Violet. Jerry Davidson, Jr., with the Cf. A. A. at Hush Field, Augusta. Ga., flew up to Murphy Sunday and visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J W. Davidson. Mrs. J. W. Davidson, James A. Kelley and Mrs. Martjia Adams at tended the Mathematics conference in Asheville Thursday. Mrs. William J. Canata and son. Bill, are visiting her grandfather, W. A. Johnson, in Athens, Ga., this week. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bailey spent last week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Burgess Bailey in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
