SOCIETY Junior Club Seeks Teaching Of Bible In School Mrs. David King, chairman of the Department of Education, had charge of the November 20 meet ing of Murphy Junior Woman's club The meeting opened at 7.30 p m with the president. Mrs. Har old Wells, presiding The scrip ture was read by Mrs. Ann Phil lips and was followed by the club members singing "Onward Chris tian Soldiers." Miss Adella Me joney, Mrs. Merle Davis, and Mrs. C'loc Moore opened the program by giving comments on why they thought Bible should be taught in the public schools. Mrs. T. A. Case, the guest speaker, was intro duced by Mrs. King Mrs. Case told the club how it could go about -jetting Bible taught in the public I schools of Murphy The business session was opened by the Collect and the Club Wom an's Hymn. Miss Gladys McCles key read the minutes of the last meeting, and Miss Thomasine Slay ton gave the treasurer's report. Miss Mary Cornwell, chairman of the Ways and Means committee reported on plans for the "Coun j try Store'' in December Mer t chants of the city have been asked 1 for donations, and the funds ire ] to go to the Girl Scouts. World Fellowship Is Topic Discussed At WMS Meetings Circles of the Woman's Mission ary Society of the First Baptist church held their regular meetings Tuesday afternoon. The Lottie Moon circle met at the home of Mrs. J. D. Burch. with Mrs. Z. 1). Morrow serving as co hostess The meeting was opened with the Lord's prayer in unison. Mrs. Burch pave the devotional. Mrs. Cloe Moore, chairman, pre sided over the business session, when business new and old was discussed. Community missions for December included helping some needy family with food and clothing. Mrs. S. S. Williams led in pray er. and the program topic "The Sin of Racial Discrimination'' was discussed. Mrs. Cecil Monteith talked on "A Planter Finds the Way", and "World Fellowship at Copenhapen" was given by Mrs. Henry Hyatt. Mrs. Moore's subject was, "Are We Free?" Mrs. Moore closed the meeting with prayer, and refreshments were served to nine members pres cnt. The Mae Perry circle met at the church with Mrs. Roy Cook as hostess. Mrs. Cook presided and gave the Bible study and Mrs. Bes sie Deweese offered prayer. Mrs. W. C. Kinney presented the topic, "What Baptist World Fellowship Means to Us". Topics discussed by Mrs. Cook were, "Are We Free?", and "Feeble Knees Strengthened", after which she closed the meeting with pray er, and a short business session followed. During the social hour, refresh ments were served to eight mem bers. Mrs. Ben Palmer was hostess to the Fannie E. S. Heck circle at her home here Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. E. L. Shields, chairman, gave the devotional and presented the topic, "Feeble Knees Strength ened." "Women Will Find a Way", was the subject of a talk by Mrs. Ed Deweese. The general topic was "Racial Discrimination." Hayesville And Murphy Game Ends In Tie 6-6 The Hayesville Yellow Jackets and Murphy Bulldogs fought to a . <>-6 tie here Friday, Nov. 14, before approximately 1,000 chilled home coming fans. This game saw the Hayesville team take advantage of Murphy's fumbles and pass interceptions. Although the Bulldogs lead in the statistical department, Hayesville was able to get an even break in the score. The Yellow Jackets took the opening kickoff but were unable to gain an inch. Later in the first quarter a fumble and a penalty gave Hayesville their only score. The rest of the half had Hayesville defending their goal as the Bull dogs threatened time and time again. Opening the second half Mur phy took the ball and with Alex ander. Davidson and Brendle mak ing good gains marched 70 yards for their only score. The try for extra point was no good The play ing was over as neither team threatened again and the gun sounded with the score tied. For the Bulldogs Fricks, Bureh c.nd Meroney shone in the line, while Alexander and Brendle were the stand outs in the backfield.
