of March totaled $17,481.25; of this
amount $16,481.25 were in Series
E Bonds; none in F Bonds, and
$1,000 in Series G Bonds.

counties were $2,898,030 50. Of
this total $2,665,422.50 were in F
Bonds; $52,281 in F Bends, and
$180,600 in G Bonds March 1952

recently completed major convoy
exercises in the Atlantic between
Long Island and Panama.
The maneuver, known as "Con
voy Exercises 3." were realistic in
that Navy transports, tankers and
cargo ships sailed from New York.
Norfolk, and other East Coast
ports in the same manner as did
Allied convoys of World War IX.
Opposing them, and attempting
to close sea lanes, were "enemy"
forces of submarines, surface
raiders and land-based patrol
bombers.

The survey list in 1951 includ
ed 4.111 hospitals of 25 or more
beds, of which 81.5^ are approv
ed. Of the 3,352 total approvals.

he had served as bookkeeper for

son of John White and Lucy Alice

erated a lumber business

He married Miss Kenietha Tay
lor of Andrews, and they had two
?ons. John Emmltt White, who is
living in Gastonia. and Joe Bruce
White, now serving with th? Army
in Los Angeles. Calif.
White's first wife died, and he
and Miss Maude Dalton of An
drews. who survives, were married
in 1926.
He was a veteran of Navy ser
vice in World War 1 and a mem
ber of the Leslie Stillman Post of
the American Legion. I
He also was a Mason and a
member of the Episcopal Church
of Waynesville. 1

ow and two older sons, are five
daughters, all by his second mar
riage: Mrs. Jane Grace Day of
Andrews. Mrs. Jack Cabe of Scar
bro. West Va., and Barbara Ann.

marriage, James Robert of the
