vention Is far from ideal. Our
most logical protection lies in con
trolling the spread of rabies in
animals so that treatment will be
unnecessary following dog bites.
Hew can this be accomplished?
Already countries such as Eng
land. Sweden. Denmark. fcave eli
minated the disease by following
these measures It is a simple as
this:
1. Rid the community of stray
dogs. It is the unwanted stray dog
' i: at is never vaccinated and is
1 most susceptible to rabies when
, intrcduccd into a community. |
2. Vaccinate your dogs every
' >ear. The health department ra
bies clinics provide this service tor
>ou at a small fee.
3 Report all cases of rabies or
suspected rabies. to your health
department,
4 Cooperate with your health
department in any measure deem
ed necessary to control an out
break of rabies.
The County Health Department
earnestly solicits the cooperation
of each and every citizen during
this effort to make our community
a healthier and safer place to live.
Clinics will be located at points
throughout the county where you
can take your dog for inoculation.
IVatch for the announcement of
the time and place of these clinics
in your local paper.

LEADEUS ESSENTIAL
It is only through the untiring
efforts of the leaders within the
clubs that growth and develop
ment can be realized. It Is won
derful to see leaders acquire more
' self confindence in their own
! rbility. We learu to do by doing.
We begin where we are with what
| we have, set goals for the future,
make a plan whereby we may at
tain these goals, then?work the
plan. Everyone should share the
responsibility. Through the con
sorted action of leaders nothing is
impossible in our homes, clubs and
communities.
REMARKS OF PRESIDENTS
The president of the National
Home Demonstration Council, {
Miss Jennie Williams, says. "We
ere an organization that is suf
ficiently known and respected to
be asked to send representatives ,
to many of the conferences where '
decisions are made that affect our'
liwes directly. We have recognition
as a force that can be useful in
shaping policies."
Our own president of the North
Oarolina Federation of Home
Demonstration Clubs, Mrs. H. M I
Johnson, says, "Great potential <
strength has come by the untlr-;
ing efforts of our leaders in co- j
operation with the women of out
standing foresight, ability and in
creased participation In activities
on a local, state and national
level." |
Mrs. Johnson continues. "Club
members have gained a lot and
had a good time while doing it
singing, playing, and fellowshipp-1
ing together. There is warm hap
piness In homes today where co
operation, understanding, friend
ship, faith, service and love
abides."
It would be Impossible to tell
the true value of Home Demon
stration work. How can one mea
sure the pleasure of working, the
influence of example, the wisdom
of economy, the improvement of
talents, the Joy of service, the
wealth of character, the value of
a healthy child or a happy home?
The real worth will be reflected
in tomorrow's world. We must
kzep "Today's Home" conscious of
its responsibilities in developing
healthy, happy citizens who can
meet the future with courage and
confidence.
