Pledge $3,900 For Andrews Band The Andrews Chamber of Com-1 tnerce reports the fund-raising campaign for a band and public school music department in the Andrews Schools has received en thusiastic support from the entire district. The minimum goal is $5,000 to be raised by May 15 The fund raising committee is composed of the following mem bers of the Chamber ol Commer- J ce: P. B Ferebee, chairman, Ty j Burnette. Mabel Fisher, C O. Van j Gorder and W. D. Whitaker. To date approximately $3.900! has been pledged in initial gifts, j including several band instruments which have been donated by inter- [ ested individuals Fund-raising headquarters are ' the Citizens Bank A Trust Com-1 pany, w hich has arranged an ex- j ceedingly attractive window dis- j play with a large thermometer in dicating the daily progress of the ' drive. Shearer of Patrick was honored with a birthday dinner Sunday at his home. Sunday marked his seventy fourth birthdav Mr Shearer was l>orn in Cherokee County and has spent most of his life here He is i deacon of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and has held many other (hurch offiees. After dinner several songs were sung and the Rev. G W. Kilpsit rick brought the devotional. Mr. Shearer received many lifts. Those present were live honoree ;.nd wife and Mr Shearer's sis ters.
