I am also told that much time
of many congressmen is taken up
by lobbists and lobbying is done
mainly at cocktail parties. This
w ill not bother me, for 1 do not
drink and never did I will devote
all my time to the job and will
r e*, keep an office open back home
. io make money on the side.
1 was raised on a little forty ac>-e i
hillside farm, and while working
my way through college I worked
during summer months on the
| Asheville School farm for 75c a
I day. So those of you who were
| r:ised on a farm or work for a
; living know thai I will be in favor
of economy in government, a bal
i a need budget to halt inflation, for
less controls, more individual free
| Vm and help to the battle torn
. ountries only until they can help
I themselves.
I represented four southern
J states in Washington in 1934 on
I -n emergency farm loan commit
tee. and I would like to represent
| his district in Congress for a few
j rears. No man should stay in high
I -nblie office for a long period of
| time. I am in favor of the propos
ed bill to limit a congressman's
tenure to twelve years.
1 have worked in every commu
nity in this congressional district.

The support I am receiving is ex
tremely encouraging. The people
seem to want a man who will be
free to make up his own mind
without political or factional pres
sure.
Although I have received only
S7 per day while working with the
Highway Commission. I feel good
over helping so very many of you
out of the mud and dust already

Be patient with the road men, for
it takes time and a lot of work to
build roads in these mountains.
I could make you a lot of prom- i

be judged by his past. If I have
served you well in the past and
you think I will be honest and
fair in every way and you will
have full confidence in me, I will
appreciate your vote. But if you
want a man who will just repre
sent his special friends, a political

because I am going to represent
the interests of all the people in
