Would You Support A i -," ? ? Dry For Congress? WE KNOW DALE THRASH TO BE A PERSONAL DRY, WHO STRONGLY FAVORS PROHIBITION. ON THE OTHER HAND, GEORGE SHUFORD AND FRANK PARKER ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DISFRANCHISING BUNCOMBE COUNTY PEOPLE OUT SIDE ASHEVILLE CITY LIMITS IN ORDER TO PUT LIQUOR STORES IN ASHEVILLE. The following is a portion of a sermon delivered by the Reverend Nane Starnes, Pastor of the West Asheville Baptist Church, as appeared in the Asheville CITIZEN on April 7,1947: "Even on Easter morning I can't restrain myself from paying my respects to the noble statesmen who represent us down in Raleigh: Fisher, SHUFORD and PARKER. "They by their keen foresight and clever manipula tion ran a bill, purplosed to drench Asheville in liquor, through the legislature without warning or opportunity for us bo protest. On next to the last day it arrived and was quickly railroaded through. It must undbubtedly take great brains arid character to prolduce such statesmen. "In order to put liquor, not only in the alley, but also on main street, in bright lights of allurement, they thought it wise to disfranchise everybddy who lives acrtoss Beau catcher Mountain or Hominy Creek. Parents of children whb are unfortunate to live in Bihmore Forest have no choke about whether liquor stores shall be on Pattfon AW nue. The point is if the people in towns and rural districts are so stupid as ntot to want to cash in ton the liquor busi ness at the expense df their youths, then we won't ctount their votes. "It is marvelous to see what polliticdans will do for the ring of some cash; what efforts to make vice respectable for a price. The question of right anld well-being of our citizenship fades into the fog. The liquor companies should raise a monument to these men. Thank God Roy Taylor refused to 'walk with them. We preachers do everything possible to dvade taking sides in politics!! matters, but when people's lives are at Stake, we dare not be silent. I this day charge you tb go mark these men well: Fisher, SHUFORD and PARKER If such bills are the fruit of their wisdom, then we must keep them at home."
