drews of the death on June IS of
Herbert Plemmons, Jr., age 33, of
Jacksonville. Fla.
Mr. Plemmons was the son of
Roy H. Plemmons and the late
Mrs. Plemmons, former residents
of Andrews. Mr. Plemmons was
for six years District Engineer of
the State Highway Department
here.
The deceased is survived by his
wife, a son, his father and a bro
ther. Howard Plemmons, of Tuc
son, Ariz.
William D. Hicks
Dies At Age 53
William Dewey Hicks of An
drews. age 53, died at his home at
13 30 p m. Tuesday following a
I long illness.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Mary Passmore Hicks, two daugh
ters. Mrs. Alene Gibby and Mrs.
Marvin Gibby and by one son,
Walter Hicks, all of Andrews.
Also surviving are four broth
ers. Lawton, Eldon and Aston of
Andrews, and Shelley of High
Point, and two sisters, Mrs Culla
Mae Mathis and Mrs. Lora Cur
tis. both of Andrews.
He was a member of the Juna

Bates July 8, on a charge of mak
ing false statements, knowing them
to be false, to obtain unemploy
ment benefits from the Employ
ment Security Commission of N
C.. announces William Heyward.
Claims Deputy of the Employment
Security Commission. The defen
dant was charged with represent
ing herself to be unemployed dur
ing a period of several weeks in
1950. when in fart she was employ
ed by the Imperial Laundry of
Murphy. i
The defendant through her at
torney, entered a plea of guilty as
charged and was sentenced by the
court to pay a fine of $20 and
costs of court
