Patton, Executive Director. Three hundred thousand copies of the hunting regulations were printed and placed In the hands of license dealers August 1 when the hunting licenses went on sale. Following are dates and bag lim its made official by the Commis sion's action: Bear: Open season October 15 through January 1, with a daily bag and possession limit of two. There are minor exceptions in western counties with regard to | the use of dogs for hunting bear, ind a dally bag limit of one in stead of two. No, bear weighing less than fifty pounds may be ta ken. Deer: With minor exceptions a state-wide dally bag and posses sion limit of one deer, with a sea son limit of two, was established Avery, Burke. Caldwell, Chero kee, Clay. Graham, Macon, Madi son. McDowell, Mitchell and Yan ry Counties will have three sea sons: November 17-18, 24-26. and December 3-6, with local excep tions. Wild Boar: No change over last year's season. Raccoon and Opossum: The gen eral season extends from October 15 to February 14. with excep tions in certain central counties. In some western counties no guns may be used for taking raccoon at any time, night or day, and there ?:re other local exceptions with re gard to the use of axes and saws for hunting racoon. There is no ! bag or possession limit for rac coons except in certain western counties. Rabbits: State-wide open season from November 27 to January 31, | with a daily bag of five, posses j sion ten. and a season limit of 73. Squirrels: October 1 to January 1 in thirty mountain counties. A daily bag of eight, possession lim it of sixteen, and a season of 100 squirrels will be allowed, with lo cal exceptions in the western part of the state. Quail: State-wide season from November 27 through January 31, with a daily bag limit of eight, possession sixteen, and a season limit of 100. Wild Turkeys (Gobblers only): State-wide season from November 27 through January 31, with a dal ly bag of one, possession two, and season limit of three. Ruffed Grouse: October IS through January 31, except that In and northeast of Mitchell County the season is from November 27 through January 31. The dally bag limit for grouse is three, posses sion six, and thirty for the season, except that in and northeast of Mitchell County two grouse will be allowed daily, four in posses sion. and twenty for the season. A uniform trapping season from November IS through January 31 on mink, muskrat. opossum, otter, and raccoon was established. No raccoons or otters may be taken in traps west of U. S. Highway No. 1.
