Church Razed By Fire During Storm A Ore, believed to have been cauaed by lightning completely destroyed the Andrews West End Baptist Church, Tuesday. August 19, at about 1 a. m. Revival services had been com menced at the church the proceed ing night with the Rev. Joe Wilds of Marshall, and the Rev. Jim Tru est of Andrews, conducting the services The church was struck during a very severe electric storm. It was completely covered by insurance. Following unusually hot and hu mid days, considerable damage in the Andrews area has been done by the severe electric storms of Saturday and Monday nights. Doz ens of persons reported electric bulbs, fuses and equipment burned out or damaged. Some homes were without cooking facilities Tuesday morning. Several trees were up rooted and some damage was done to com and other crops. The lightning spectacle of the two nights was extremely severe lasting for about an hour each time and showing almost continu ous. bright flashes. i T-ane Creasman of Gastonia is visiting friends and relatives in Andrews. Job Openings i Are Announced Jack Burrus of the Employment Security Commission announces several openings in Murphy and surrounding areas for experienced | maids, housekeepers, baby sitters and waitresses. I All persons interested in these ' positions should contact the local State Employment Office immedi ately. The offices are located over the A & P Store in Murphy. Mr. Burrus says many other job openings exist in other areas, such as plumber, pipefitter, electrician, sheet metal workers, machinest and others. These positions are for fully qualified workers. Hardins Celebrate Golden Wedding Mr. and Mr* Lloyd Hardin of Andrewx celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary, Sunday, August 17, at their home. Children and granacnlldren gathered in and a special Invita tion brought brothers, sisters, nie ces and nephews. A bounteous dinner was served on long tables In the yard to some eighty members of the family Centering the tables was a choco late anlversary cake, with decora tions of white. Gold ribboned gifts \1 ere opened following the meal. Attending the anniversary din ner were the couple's six children and their families, Mr. and Mrs P. W. Hardin of Andrews; Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Hardin and son, Nor man of Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. Bertie Hardin and children, Bet ty, Clarence, Meredith, Larry. Lu cile, Eddie, Carl and Kenneth, of Andrews; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hardin and children. Avis and Lloyd, of Knoxville. Tenn.; Mr and Mrs. A. V. West and children, Charles and Judy, of Andrews; and Mr. and Mrs. Dock Gibson, and daujhier, Shirley. Andrews Personals Mrs. Roriie Hampton of Robbins ville visited Mrs. Bruce King and Mrs. Luke Ellis one day last week. Will Martin of Knoxville, Tenn., visited Mr and Mrs. Fred Patter son of Andrews last week. Mrs. Fred Patterson is leaving Friday for Ypsilanti, Mich., where she will spend ten days visiting Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Patterson. Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Davis of Qulncy, Fla., were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Walker Freel of Ivoryton, Conn., are spending a two weeks' vacation with their parents, Mr and Mrs. C. W. Freel. Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Stewart and son. Zeb, Jr., of Lenoir are visit ing friends and relatives in An drews. Mrs. Vincent Love and son, Ed die, of Gilbert, W. Va? are visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Golman Lail and other relatives. Mrs. W. B. Candler of Villa Rica, Ga., is spending several days with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Nichols. The Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Neville and Miss Frances McPherson spent Sunday afternoon and Mon day in Montreat. Mrs. Harve Mulkey spent sever al days in Robbinsville with her daughter, Mrs. Jeff Davis, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Snyder of Asheville spent the week-end with relatives in Andrews. Miss Elizabeth Kilpatrick visit ed last week with friends in High lands and in Bryson City. Mrs. S. J. Gernert and sons, Peter and Johnny, are visiting relatives in Reading, Pa. Mrs. Harold Katzaman and chil dren, Barbara and Butch, are vis iting relatives in Reading, Pa., for a couple of weeks. Carl Tatham of Houston. Tex., spent Wednesday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Luke Ellis. The brother and sisters of Mrs Hardin had not been together in a group for more than twenty-five years. Since 1948 she | has been employed as Public . Health Educator with the Ala : mance County Health Department. Mr. Wood was graduated from Mars Hill College and attended the University of North Carolina, j During World War II, he served as Flight Officer with the Air Force.
