Cherokee Indians on the local
field this Friday,
The Andrews eleven traveled to
Cherokee Uat Thursday afternoon
to play In a game that waa part of
the Cherokee Indian Pair pro
gram. The local team came out on
top with a 6-0 victory.
The Cherokee* return the game
Friday on the Andrews Field.
Kick-off time is 8 p. m.

The regular monthly meeting of
the Andrews PTA will be held at
the school auditorium, Tuesday,
October 14, at 7:30 p. m.
Mrs. Gernert, president, an
nrjnces that for the program an
interesting film will be shown.
All PTA members are asked to
bring a bundle of children's cloth
tog to be used for needy children
to the Andrews schools.
Clyde Fraley is now employed in
La Grange, Ga. His family will re
main at their home here, with Mr.
Fraley coming home on week
ends.

Youth Picnic
At Wavah Bald
The Junior Youth Fellowship of
the Andrews Methodist Church
went to Wayah Bald tor a picnic
and vesper service last Sunday
evening.
The topic of the program was.
"Time Out for Worship".

gel, Darlene Powers, Irene Lomi
nac and Hazel Rector were on the
program.
Miss Vera Moore and Miss Ruth
Hamilton are adult leaders.
Miss Ruth Barnard of Brevard
spent the week-end in Andrews.
B. W. C. Meets With
Mrs. L B. Womack
The B. W. C. of First Baptist
Church, Andrews, met at the home
of Mrs. Lu B. Womack Thursday
at 7:30 p. m. Mrs. Polly McGuire
and Mrs. Mellie Stewart were co
hostesses.
Mrs. A. B. Chandler, Sr., had
chare? of the program "Christian
Citizenship". The devotional was
l?d by Mrs. Chandler, followed
with prayer by Mrs. Minnie Tath
am.
Others on the program were
Mrs. Tatham, Miss Bertha Mc
Guire and Mrs. Mabel Rayburn.
Mrs. Ruth Starr Puliium had
charge of the business session.

Is Assigned To
Company In Korea
With the Eighth Army in Korea
?Army Cpl. Ben A. Brown of
Murphy, N. C., recently was as
signed to the 30th Ordinance Hea
vy Maintenance Company in Ko
rea.
He arrived in the combat zone
on September 2 and will serve as
a tank recovery man in his new or
ganization, which supports front
line units of the Eighth Army by
repairing heavy vehicles and wea
pons.
Corporal Brown wears the UN
Service Ribbon and the Korean
Service Ribbon with 3 campaign
stars.
He was a truck driver for Geor
gia. Carolina Freight Lines before
entering the Army in June 1950.
He Is the son of Ben H. Brown
of Murphy.

Marks Blue Ridge
Rangers report that autumn
color may reach its peak along the
Blue Ridge the week-end of Octo
ber 11 and in the Great Smokies
between October 15 and 25. Bril
liant foliage is already showing all
over Western North Carolina, and
the "color parade" will continue
into early November.
New objectives include Mount
Pisgah, now accessible by improv
ed gravel road connecting with U.
S. 276 at Wagon Road Gap; the
new Mile High Swinging Bridge
etop Grandfather Mountain; and
Roan Mountain now reached by a
new Forest Service road connect
ing with N. C. 261 (too new to be
on most maps) leading north from
Bakersville.

High Overlook of the Blue Ridge
Parkway?is also open. Visitors
are finding more accommodations
in full-scale operation than have
remained open in October before.
