of Andrews, has resigned his pas
'orate. effective October 16.
Mr. Richardson became pastor of
the Andrews church, July 6. 1950.

During the pastorate of Mr.

vere added to the church. The
Training Union was departmenta
i~;d, and the Sunday School re
organized. A Baptist Brotherhood
^as formed. A church library was
established. A building fund for
^novation of church property has
been started.
An increased support of mis
ions has been realized. A church
ius has been bought to transport
>cople to services. A supplementa
ry heating system has been added
o the church, and a new heating
plant obtained for the pastorium.
During his two years in An
drews., Mr. Richardson was twice
president of Associational Baptist
'linister's Conference. He served
s Pastor-Advisor fo rthe Associa
tional Baptist Training Union. He
served on the State Evangelistic
Committee, and was on the Gen
eral Board of the Baptist State
Convention of North Carolina. He
taught the Old Testament Course
in the Murphy Baptist Seminary
Center, which is sponsored by the
Southern Baptist Seminaries. Mr.
Richardson was also on the Mis
sions Committee of the WNC Bap
tist Association and was Assocla
' ional R. A. Counselor.
Mrs. Richardson has likewise
been active in the entire church
program. Sl^e has taught In the
Sunday School, was counselor and
Departmental Director in the
Training Union. She has been mus
ic director In the church, having
charge of both choirs. She led thp
YWA and worked with each of
the Circles in W. M. U. work.

Mrs. Gerald Parker was hostess
to the Woman's Missionary Society
at Marble Baptist Church at her
home Wednesday afternoon, Octo
ber 8.
The meeting opened with the
group singing "America". Mrs. A
B. Love 11 gave the devotional.
Mrs. Alma Raxter was in charge
of the program "Choosing the More
Excellent Way" Those taking part
on the program were: Mesdames
Robert Hannah, Ralph Kilpatrick,
Glade West, Victor West, Grady
Farmer, Frank Kilpatrick and J
V. Hall.
Others present were Mesdames
Herman West, W. W. Lovingood,
Rill Gilbert, Vincent West and
Forest Abernathey.
At the conclusion of the busi
ness session, the hostess served
lefreshments.
The November meeting will be
at th home of Mrs. Hannah.

meeting of the Baptist Church wi
held at Bryson City, Thursday
evening.
Miss Pearl Johnson, returned
missionary from China, was the
principal speaker. Miss Johnson
has the distinction of being the
'last Baptist missionary to leave
Red China.

ing was to discuss the blood mobile
program.

nesday, February 4.

Rites Held For
Mrs. F. L Herbert
Mrs. Fred L. Herbert, widow of
tile late Dr. Fred L. Herbert, pro
minent Andrews physician, died in
an Asheville hospital, Saturday
inerning.
Mrs. Herbert had been in de
clining health for several years.
The former Nannie Bristol, Mrs.
Herbert was a native of Clay
She was a loyal member of First
Baptist Church of Andrews.
County.
Surviving are two sons and one
daughter. Jack Herbert of An
drews; Arthur Herbert of Murphy;
and Mrs. David Lindsay of Ruth
erfordton. A grandson, Jack Row
land Herbert, of Andrews; and two
brothers, Arthur Bristol of Hayes
v ille, and T. J. Bristol of Andrews,
also survive.
Funeral services were conducted
Sunday afternoon at the First Bap
tist Church, of Andrews, at 2:30
p. m.
The body lay in state from 1:30
until 2:30
Internment was in Valleytown
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Edwin
Bristol, Arthur Watkins, A. B.
Chandler, Jr., Jack Long, Ty Bur
T-tte and Ray Matheson.
