Hay Yield Is AO-Time High Despite unfavorable weather 1 conditions during June and July, the 1882 average yield for all hay was the highest ever recorded (or North Carolina, the State Farm Report said today . The crop was harvested from 1,227,000 acres, an average yield of 1.08 tons per acre. The yield compares with an average of 1.01 tons harvested front 1,105,000 acres a year ear lier. Total production at 1,350,MO? almost 10 per cent larger than the 1051 production of 1,200,000 tons ?was the third highest recorded for the state. It was topped la 1005 and 1048. All hay crops?particularly les pedexa and alfalfa, responded quite well to rains which broke the summer drought around Aug. 1. the report asserted. Alfalfa growers obtained two heavy cuttings after the rain. Les pedeza which had made little growth prior to the rains made j abundant growth after Aug. 1, as did weeds and crabgrass, the re port said. As a result, the tonnage of ma terial harvested from the lespe deaa acreage far exceeded early expectations. JOE BEAVER" ? ' By Ed Nofriger 1*0 n) Forest Service, U. S.
