1 hesitate to aay SPRLNG IS HERE, for tar we'U base a snow
1 storm Che next minute.,$ut the lovely weather this week baa been
heavenly. ,, V ? '
I love this'weather when a suit U ample wrap and when you can
throw open the window* and door* and let the warm sunshine and fresh
air take the place of artificial heating. And I've seen lota of local folks
out puttering around In their yards?raking end planting. Saw Joe and
Frances Ray out Tuesday p. m. planting a tree in their front yard?
didn't recognize whoever It was helping them e? we rode by. Also saw
Rev. and Mrs. Morris out the same afternoon?digging a hole In their
front yard or uprooting a big tree or something.
One of my pet drives the
Easter Seal Sale for Crippled
Children?has begun. This camp
aign keeps almost all of the money
In the home state?over 90 per
cent In fact? and way more than
half of that will be used in Chero
kee County.
As 1 understand it, the fund is
used by persons who could not af
ford the treatment without help?
or is used to supplement a part of
the expenses when the parents can
afford to pay some.
W. D. WHITAKER In Andrews is
heading up the campaign in the
County, and the campaign lasts
until April 5. During the last week
of the drive, you'll see some local
lassies out on the streets selling
Easter lilies know .like buddy
poppies), and when you buy one,
you'll know what the money is for.
"MA" CHRISTOPHER'S birthday
is getting to be a regular tradition
in Murphy- Last Thursday she
celebrated her 82nd birthday with
a drop-in given by her daughters,
MRS. E A. BROWNING and (MRS.
ED HARNETT, at the home of the
former. And a nice party it was.
But. I didn't get a chance to say
much to the honoree as I was way
across the room, and folks wen
just clambering lor tier attention.
You should have seen the love
ly fluffy frock LINDA ENGLISH
had on at the Baptist Training
Union Banquet last week. It was
acqa and a short formal, and just
reminded me bow quickly our
young folks giyw up.
And SALLY MORRIS wore a
dream of a gossemer gray, hakar
necked nylon organza short formal.
ANNE SHIELDS, looked lovely In
a rust colored dress, which I think
was velveteen, but wasn't close'
enough to tell.
JOHN GILL emceed the affair,
assisted by the spontaneous erupt
ion of mistress of ceremonies AVIS
HOOVER
I'm delighted one of my favorite
people, MRS. J. B. GRAY, is re
covering from her recent illness,
when she was confined to the hosp
ital. But, she's home now. ?
The other afternoon I was sure
the good fairies were at work in
Mrs. G's yard, when I saw a bunch
of Boy Scouts out cleaning up,
with Scoutmaster IRVIN GREENE
at the helm.
MRS. JACK ROBERTS called
the other afternoon to read a para
