Annual Graduating Exercises Monday

the 12th annual commencement
exercises of the Hiwasaee Dam
School will be presented begin
ning Friday, May 15, 8 P. M? with
the music recital of Mrs. Margaret
M. Akin's pupils at the school aud
itorium.
Rev. H. Lester Stowe, pastor of
the Peachtree Baptist Church and
former Hiwassee faculty member,
will deliver the baccalaureate mes
sage to the Seniors and their
friends, Sunday evening, May 17,
at the school auditorium.
Eighth grade promotion exercis
es will be held Monday morning at
10 o'clock.
Student speakers for the gradu
ating exercises on Monday evening
at 8 o'clock. May 18, will be W.
Wade Hamby, Class President;
Jeania Boring, Salutatorian; and

Dr. Dickey
Returns To
Practice Here
Dr. Harry Dickey, Murphy den
tist. will ire-open his practice here
In about two weeks, it was said
here today. He will occupy his
office over the Mauney
Building.
Dr. Dickey recently received
his discharge from the Air Force,
in which he was a captain and of
ficer In charge of the Moody AFB
Dental Clinic, from 1951 until
some weeks ago.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
W. S. Dickey of Murphy and
graduated from Murphy High
School in 1940. Ht entered active
Military service in 1943 and serv
ed until November, 1945.
Upon his discharge from serv
ice, Dickey returned to Emory
University School of Dentristry and
?receive^ his DDS In 1947, after
which he practiced in Murphy.
Dr. Dickey is a member of the
Cherokee County Coon Club and
the Cherokee Lodge 146, AF and
Am. His wife is the former Betty
iBurch of Murphy and they- have
one child. Robert Harry, three.

The school's largest graduating
class In the last 10 years will rec
eive diplomas from Murphy High
School Monday at 8 p. m when
Commencement exercises are held.
Some 90 students make up the
class, H. Bueck, Superintendent*
said. Mr. Bueck stated that the
school graudated as many as 130 in
some years before World War II,
when the large number of TV A per
sonnel lived in and around Murphy
The commencement address will
be given by Dr. Herbert McCall and
Helen Haney, class valedictorian
and Shirley Bates, salutatorian, will
also speak.
Special music will be by Mrs.
Duke Whitley, Shirley Bates, Gle
nda Ivie, Gene Bates and an augm
ented trio. Supt. Bueck will intro
duce the speaker.

vice will be held Sunday at 11:45
a. m. In the school auditorium,
with ministers of the town march
ing in with the graduating class.
Most churches of the town will
not hold their regular Sunday
morning worship services in
order to participate in the bac
calaureate program.
The sermon will be delivered by
the Rev. J. Alton Morris, pastor of
the Murphy First Baptist Church.
