Sings Here Sunday CARRINGER Murphy's Walter Carringer, now of New York City, will present a program of sacred music here Sunday evening at the First Baptist Church at 8:30 o'clock. A tenor, Carringer has been soloist with the Robert Shaw Chorale, in addition to other concert work. This summer he has been on the staff at Transylvalia Music Camp, Brevard, and has sung in many Western North Carolina churches and at Junaluska Methodist Assembly. The program was set at 8:30, so other crurches In town could participate. Mrs. Martha Roberson asked the binning end Mr. Johnson made a wish and blew out the cardies. Mrs. Glenmore Payne took pic tures of the guests seated at the table. Davis; president, Al bert Miesse; vice-president, James Palmer;treasurer, Wilbur Harper; secretary, Geneva Miesse; time Miss Helen Isix Is Bride Of Ralph Cooke Miss Helen Elsie Nix became the bride of Ralph Cooke in a single ring ceremony Saturday, August 15, at 11 a. m., at Blue Ridge, Oa., with Ordinary Roy Chapman officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carnie Nix of Murphy, Rt. 3 and the bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Cooke also of Rt. 3, Murphy. The couple's only attendants were Miss Marie Dockery and' Ray Amos of Murphy. The bride wore a white street length dress fashioned with a fitted bodice of nylon lace and full satin skirt, with a net oversklrt. Her accessories were white and her corsage was of sweetheart roses. Following the ceremony a wedding reception was held in the home of the parents of the bridegroom, with close friends and relatives in attendance. The bride is a graduate of Murphy High School and was employed in High Point at the time of the wedding. The bridegroom attended Murphy High School and is now1 employed at FOrd Motor Co., in Chicago, 111., where the couple are making their home. I On Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Mrs. Cooke was honor ed at a miscellaneous shower at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Don Hall, where she received a number of gifts. Refreshments were served to the following: Mrs. Frank Kep hart, Mrs. Ervin Dockery, Mrs. Glenn Dockery, Mrs. Jack Wil son, Mrs. Verl Davis, Mrs. John Kephart, Mrs. Garland Dockery, Mrs. Garnle Nix, Mrs. Oliver Cooke, Mrs. Herman Roberson, Mrs. Roscoe Dockery and Misses Marie Dockery, and Kathryn Nix and the honoree. The children that attended the Blhle School were entertained on a hike and a picnic Friday afternoon. They al so received Certificates at the Commencement Program Frday Night. LUCY LAUGHTER and her son KENT were all In smiles last week because her husband was home from Washington, D. C. EDGAR HOLLAND is report ed to be improving since his operation In an Asheville Hos pital. There will be a Rodeo at the Andrews Ball Park Labor Day, September 7th and Sep tember 8th. Performances will be each evening at 8:00. The Rodeo will be sponsored by the American Legion. The Story Hour at the Library sponsored Jpy the Konnaheeta Club was a real success. The children came in a party-like spirit and enjoyed the stories with refreshments on the Li brary steps then played games in the Library yard and were reluctant to go home.
